My son flipped out this weekend when I wouldn't let him go out and play in the rain. I really didn't have a good reason to NOT let him play in the rain, other than it was cold and wet and he didn't have a rain coat or pants. Any who....

I can't find a decently priced rain coat and rain pants for him, so I guess I'll have to make one. My thoughts are:

PUL outer and fleece lined inner (fleece for warmth since we live in VA, and that kidling likes to go out side all.the.time)

or
Oil cloth outer, and fleece lined inner.

I have also thought about laminated cotton, but at almost $20 a yard, i just can't swing that.

Thoughts on this ? I'd love some pointers and welcome any and all ideas!

Thanks,
Marty

I would think the PUL and fleece would be great... If it were me I would make simple elastic waist pair of pants- one set in PUL one set in fleece that is slightly smaller (1/4 inch less?) in leg width AND with these changes... make the fleece "top" of the pants the height you want them to be, and the PUL longer so that you can fold it over and make the elastic casing over the top of the fleece layer (does that even make sense?)... I would turn the fleece pants inside out, and put them inside the PUL pants so you have wrong sides together, sew the top elastic casing, enclosing the edge of the fleece in the PUL. Insert elastic and sew seam closed. Then on the "cuffs", do the same thing PUL longer, fold it up over the edge of the fleece a bit and sew it down.

For the Jacket... find a rain jacket pattern (Joann's has pattern sales and they are 99cents) they should have one that is lined.. if not I would do a similar version of the above- or find a pattern for a lined jacket, and just use PUL on the outer... OR let him wear a warm sweatshirt, and make him a poncho of PUL?

Jackets are harder :)
