It seems that every Feburaury since we moved into the new addition of our home I've made plans for redoing my sewing studio. I spend weeks, months even, scouring the internet looking for storage solutions, color palletes, furniture choices, all I really ever end up with though is a severe case of sewing room envy! I could spend hours on flickr searching photos of fabulous sewing and cutting rooms! Check out the Sewing Rooms pool and the Craft Rooms pool for inspiration.

Last year, my lovely husband took what had originally been our only closet/attic space when we were first married and turned it into a cutting and fabric storage room for me! First we removed the wall which had divided our clothes closet from our attic, then we hung our former kitchen cabinets on the back wall and used the old base cabinets as a base for a massive cutting table. Check out this photo that Corset_Kitty compiled into her gallery of sewing/crafting room storage ideas:

2010 plans for this room include: shelving along the left wall for fabric, shelving to replace the white cubbies and file cabinet below the cupboards for notions, etc. and a hardwood floor to cover the plywood subfloor, baseboard, etc.

We will be putting down new floors in my sewing area as well, so I'll be having to empty both rooms which sounds to me like the perfect opportunity to reorganize and redecorate my space! Because, this will be probably the only time I will have the chance, and let's be honest, after doing it once I'm fairly certain I won't be interested in emptying this room out again, I'm hoping to be as thorough as possible! I'll be researching storage options, methods, and products and blogging my findings so that when you get the chance to redo your space maybe you'll benefit from some of my backwork!

Here is a quick rundown of the areas I plan on covering:

sewing machines
stabilizers & interfacings
irons, etc.
embroidery hoops, etc.
cutting table & tools
crafting & sewing books
desk/office space
shipping supplies
made items
works in progress
I'll hopefully post on these a few times a week as I get information together. I'll also be keeping track of linked articles under Sewing Studio on my links page.

That is quite the crafting/sewing room! Awesome cutting table, too. I'm still waiting for my cabinets to be stained... and waiting, and waiting. LOL! This is exactly the color I've been wanting, for about 4 years. Gorgeous white stain, and my counter top is dark blue. Thanks for sharing. Love it!

I wish I had a room like that was working on my crafts. The huge table would be great for laying out patturns when I quilt and storage for everything. I guess that I will just have to keep dreaming. Someday I will have a dream room like this, for now I will just keep working at the dining room table.
