I am always looking for reference pics. So, if I find something I'd like to draw/paint, I always ask the photographer if I may use it. Also, when I do choose it, I usually send them a permission note to sign. But, half the time, I change something in my drawing. Most of the time, I try to be the photographer....just so there is no "problem" with it. That way, it is mine.

I'm with you all and I understand the concern. But, I guess I'm sorta like DM, if you put something out there, you know there is a possibility of thievery.

I think it's fine how you did it, the photos are copyrighted with markings to give credit, you even acknowledged again they weren't yours and you're not using the photos to make a profit off in any way.

As for assuming things will be taken and to go with the flow just because they are online, nuts to that!!! Theft is theft, be it photo, design or credit. If your work is published in a book does that mean it's free for the taking..... absolutely not, and the same goes with the internet. I use a website, it's a given when you want to the professional route now-a-days, but just because my photos are on there doesn't mean I'm giving them away or that I have to accept that some people feel entitled to what's not theirs.

As for watermarking I'll take any info you have , not that it will stop someone from copying my design but at least it protects the photo image from being distributed.

Watermarking can be done fairly easy altho a real smart thief can still have their way with your images.

To water mark you need to edit your pic in something like Photoshop or www.getpaint.net.

Open your image. Add a layer.

Then on that 2nd layer add your text, if you want it a shadow font or a fun font you can search www.dafont.com for your fave font. Paint.net and photoshop should have a 'transparency' thing for your font so you can make the watermark visible but slightly transparent.

Save the image as a COPY (NOT OVER YOUR ORIGINAL PICTURE!) and that is your watermarked version.

Here is the "art identity theft" pic some ppl put int heir listings on places like Etsy, etc.
