Hi and welcome to the forum.
Those don't look so hard. Find some old, dead bic lighters and tear out the springs from under the flints, grab some wire and have fun!

i forget what its called but its fairly simple. those things around the outside that look like springs should have hooks on them that have been bent back and all you do is tie a piece of string to one hook and go down to the hook below it and wrap it around the hook and go back up to the top to the next hook closest to the one you started at and keep going until the design is finished! Its sounds a lot more difficult than it actually is

they are called peruvian threaded earrings- they were super popular in the 70s
there are many tutorials online for them, but for me a video is always the best teacher, I found this one, though there may be more:

(and don't forget to show us what you create when you get a chance!)

Well, I went and bought the coiling gizmo and thread to try and make these earrings. You sure have to get the spacing on the coil just right or the earring looks way out of wack! Gonna keep trying until I get it right but it is gonna take a few funny looking ones to get there I think.
Thanks for posting this and the tuts, something else to work my poor brain!

they should be pretty simple... I use to make parobolic designs on my calculator when I got bored. the curves are made out of straight lines... This is made from the same line just turned a little. You can see where the negative space is being fromed by the arrow:

here's a linky for a little more info on parabolic designs and how they are formed:
http://www.mmwindowtoart.com/drawing/para1a.html

so from there you would just make your points on a circle instead of a right angle.
