Don't know about anyone else but when I'm using split rings I use a dental cleaning tool I got from my dentist to pry the split open so I can slide what ever I need onto the ring.

yeah, I've never found a good way to open them up. I guess they have pliers whose sole purpose is to open up split rings, but I use whatever I have on hand... usually it's a pampered chef paring knife... not that that's the safest way to go Welcome to the board

Default split rings

Hello,

There is a split ring tool that makes it much easier to open the split rings. I use to use an eyeglass screw driver but it is well worth the cost to purchase a split ring plier. You will save time and not be frustrated trying to open the split rings.
