Default 'Franken Pattern' Dress for a Fall Dress Swap

So this is the first of my 4 dress swap dresses I am making for swap another sewing forum I am on & I have to say I will be having a very hard time seeing it go! It is a size 4 and I plan on making another one like it out of a different fabric. Anyway I call it a ‘franken pattern’ because it’s not really a modified pattern but Sam’s Miss Mary & Miss Olivia Paige literally put together (taped one piece on top of each other & cut off what I didn’t want) with only a few minor adjustments. I used the skirt from the Miss Mary.

I seriously LOVE how it turned out!!! I got the idea from another mama who did it while testing out the Olivia Paige pattern and I just love it! I also like that the Olivia Paige can be worn ‘backwards’ or either way & it is still super cute. DH doesn’t want me to send it off to the swap, I told him I would try & get more of the fabric after the end of my ‘fabric diet’ this month.

Carlie was listening well this morning so while her sister & brother were destroying their rooms we snuck up stairs to take pictures! I didn’t realize how light their hair got this summer until putting her in a brown dress!

That is really pretty. I can see why you will have a hard time seeing it go. If I know you, you'll have two more whipped up in no time!!!!

Oh that is very pretty on her! Your girls are darlin'. Everytime I see them, I grin. They are such a joy in pictures that I can't even imagine what joy you have with them! Thanks so much for sharing them and your creations with us. I love seeing them.

I couldn't agree more. They girls always look genuinely happy in your photos. Not all sullen and like they are thinking "aww Mom.... Not again!"
I'd have to say that you are definitely doing something right!

Although sewing and dress making is not my cup of tea, I can't deny talent and YOU have definitely got talent. All of the clothing that I have seen you make has been absolutely beautiful. You must have the best dressed daughters in the neighbourhood. I can remember, years ago, my mother would have clothing patterns made of a tracing paper type material. She would pin the pattern to some material and cut out the pieces for the size that she was planning to make. From there, it was a matter of sewing the pieces together and assembling the sewn sections. Not knowing anything about other ways of making clothing, is that how you make your dresses? Or do you have a general pattern that you follow with a few modifications to suit an idea in your head. Whatever method you use, the results are incredible.

Sometimes I use patterns similar to that though I trace mine... other times I piece patterns together & then like with the skirts I made the other day, I just wing it! I have actually gotten relatively comfortable with drawing up my own patterns... now I just need more time in the day!
