Default Grey Heron - chicken wire sculpture

Our son created this life-size sculpture of a Grey Heron from chicken wire on a construction steel armature.

The hex wire was cut into squares (+- 15"/ 40 cm) and layers were bent and sculpted around the armature until the desired shae was achieved.

That's pretty cool! Does it help keep the real ones away?

Thanks and no, it even seems to attract the real ones. For a while, we had the sculpture standing on a little island in the pond and we saw other birds landing right next to it.

It does not hurt us in any way, we enjoy watching them.

Oh my! This is beautiful. We have blue herons and that's just about what they look like. Nice job.

Very cool. There are great blue herons at the cottage and we love seeing them.

The European "grey" ones are similar, just a little smaller:

Wikipedia says:
Quote:
The Great Blue Heron is replaced in the Old World by the very similar Grey Heron, which differs in being somewhat smaller (90–98 cm), with a pale gray neck and legs, lacking the browner colors that Great Blue Heron has there
