Default My most recent craft project

My sister is teaching a class at Church on Sunday about tithing. One of the stories she is using is the story of The Widow's Mite (Luke 21:1-4). I decided that for the handout, we could give each of the kids a replica of the Widow's Mite (a coin). So, I googled it to see what they look like, then I carved a stamp out of soap. I used Crayola Model Magic to make the coins. Rolled some into a little ball and squoze it between the two pieces of carved soap. Then I spray painted them with copper spray paint (since the original coins are copper). They turned out pretty good, although larger than the original coins (which are 10 mm). Mine are about the size of a 50 cent piece.

Very creative - I like your idea to use the soap as the mold. Welcome to the forum!

Wow! This is the first time I've seen anything like that. How cool to carve it out of soap too.

Thanks a lot for posting about it and for posting the pictures.

Good luck to your sister. This is a good lesson for the kids to learn.

That is a great idea. Nicely done
And the kids have something tangible to remember the lesson with too.

That's using the ol' noodle. Great execution of a neat craft idea. I think that your carvings look really nice and the coins turned out to look very authentic. Excellent job.

Wow, that's very impressive. I would never have thought to carve soap for something like this. Very nice.
