You learn something new every day!

That is great the the scraping didn't take too long. I have a tendancy to lose interest in projects that don't have some type of (relatively) instant gratification. If I can't see some progress after a while I get frustrated. That is why I have a big cross stitch project that has been sitting dormant for about 20 years. (Suddenly I feel really old!)

After you carved the symbols, how did you colour them without messing everything else up?

Interesting idea! Maybe you could make a matching bracelet or pendant too. I bet we could give you just about any random object that would be considered "useless" and you could turn it into something awesome!

That's the kind of challenge that keeps me going. I love making things from "useless" items.

I am working on the matching pendants.

As for the color, I wax the piece before I carve it. Then I apply the ink. Then I remove the wax and it takes any unwanted residue with it and leaves a decent finish on the ivory. It's really an easy process except for the actual carving. It's a slow process to get it right. I messed up a couple of pieces before I got anything that I could live with.

Oh, and I use a brush that has only three bristles in it.
