Wait so you can't find someone to ship you socks to you? GIrl, I'd get them for you and ship them to you if you want!! All you gotta do is ask I think I use this website though...

Now I really want to see a Canadian sock monkey! How fun would that be? To have like a little american one with a flag and a little canadian one with the flag...especially now with the Olympics? Make one with little ski's and all!
LOL Did you know there is a sock monkey festival? LOL

I've seen mini socks (I think they are still Rockford, but the heel is white) I was hoping for a cute mini-minkey when I made the blue one in my "too many" post. The sock I chose had wayyyyyyyyyy too much stretch

No, I did not know about the sock monkey festival! That might be going a little too far... (says me, who plans to take her sock monkey around with her, snapping photos of him in interesting places..... )
I've got a friend who is going to look for socks in a couple (three?) weeks for me when she goes to the States. If she comes back empty handed though, you may be hearing from me!
At the risk of being lynched, I am not even remotely interested in the Olympics. I'll be glad when they are over because I am tired of hearing about them. So I won't be making any Olympic sock monkeys. Barb suggested I embroider a little maple leaf on them, but I was barely able to do the heart, so I don't think that would work. But maybe an applique of some sort.
My first sock monkey was made with a "Canadian" work sock. My 11 year old named him Wybee, after a character in the movie (he's not in the book) Coraline, because the "other Wybee" has button eyes. Here he is, but I know you've seen him in another thread....

That is too funny.
Want to scare the heck out of people? While you're out taking pictures of the little guy, make like you're carrying on a conversation with him. "What do you think George, should we get one dozen eggs or two?" "Well George, do you want to pay for the groceries or is it my turn?" "If I told you once, I've told you a million times. We'll get more bananas the next time we come here. And this time, don't bite the cashier!"

ok, the sock monkey madness has begun......frenzy? addiction? Well, anyway, I got my first sock monkey completed today, only to find that my oldest son has already claimed it. So, guess what? Now I must create one for my youngest son and after mentioning that I made a sock monkey I have two girlfriends who each want a "funky munky with tramp stamps on the bums".
They both have children, so look what I have begun.......
I too, made my monkey out of a Canadian work sock. Have been investigating online and looking for the original red heel socks and may have to see if they will ship internationally. Or, maybe I will have to come a knockin at your door Mama....
Just look what you have started. What fun. Now to get to my buttons.

I have made a few sock monkeys too (not the traditional ones, prefer "modern" monkeys) and now my Mom wants one for their house for my DD. It does become an obsession, and so easy to make...
I agree though, you cannot have too many sock monkeys!

Hee hee hee! My friend just messaged me on Facebook this morning. Her son just loves my sock monkey (Mine. The grey "Canadian" one) and he wants her to make one for him. We might be getting together soon to make them because she is off work for a little while! If that actually happens, I'll get a picture of hers too.

Barb, you are a riot! You really should consider writing a book! Erma Bombeck (God rest her soul) WATCH OUT! Here comes Barb!
While doing some 'monkey' investigating last night, I came across a woman who has taken alot of pics with her monkey in various places with a story to go along with it. Very funny!
AND, got impatient not being able to find the 'right' sock, so bit the bullet & bought a pair of two tone pink ones from Walmart, I just really had to make my first monkey, NOW!
Mind you, mine is entirely hand stitched, as my machine has been outta commission for a LONGGGGG time. It's gonna be sweet. Think I'll give it to my youngest, she's the monkey lover. When she was little, she told me she wanted to be a 'monkeyologist'!
Have all but stuffed it, stitched on the mouth, eyes (two buttons from one of her childhood sweaters) & togue (designed using piece of a t-shirt sleeve & a flower button from her childhood ankle socks). The arms & legs are a tad off kilter (something like me! teehee!) but pretty sure she'll love it, never-the-less.

Apparently Canadian sock monkeys are 'supposed' to be made out of plain work socks (the grey ones with the white heel and toe and a red stripe near the top). I saw a pack of four at Walmart the other day for $10. They'd be a bit smaller because they were in the ladies dept. I didn't check the men's.

I'm working with the Canadian work socks and would love to try the red heel socks. Fox River Mills sells the red heel socks and ships to Canada. I put my order in on Wednesday so now I just have to keep checking the mail.
You can go to their website and order online, you can even purchase the original sock pattern book for $5.00 which includes more sock animals.
Just thought I'd share the info.
Happy sock hunting.
