It really depends on what colors draw YOUR eye. Here's what I was told a long time ago.

Go to your bedroom clothes closet. Do you have several shirts that are close to the same color? Maybe several pairs of shoes that are close to the same color as the shirts?

Then look at your bath towels, wash clothes, kitchen towels, etc. Are some or most of them close to the same color as the color you noticed in your closet?

If so, that is probably the color you like the most and would be a good choice for a wall paint color.

I haven't done this yet, but it makes sense to me. My eyes tend to be drawn to anything that is light green (light olive, army) or pale yellow. The few (very few) walls in my house that I've had the guts to paint a color, other than white, are medium green and very light yellow. Of course, the lighting in the room makes a huge difference in what the color looks like at various times of the day.

Good luck and if you can, post some pictures for us.

I bought my house 13 years ago and the entryway is still an off-white color. Unless you count the hand and finger prints. lol. Sometimes I wish someone would just tell me what color paint to buy for that area so I could just be done with it.

Do you know what brand of paint you're going to buy?

I agree... check out what you already have to get a feeling of what will make your brain happy.

If all else fails, just remember, beige/tan is the 'new' white. I have had spectacular luck painting many walls a nice warm tan. I'd watch out for yellowy-tans, but grab a few paint chips and see what works with what you already decorate with.

Since my main rooms are still plain enough with the brown hues, it doesn't feel as shocking when I grab my olive green for the kitchen!
