Good choice. I think it is amazing how just changing the window treatment changes the whole look of the room. Like kimber said, it looks inviting.

I have dark chocolate brown roman shades (but I have no little ones running around) and I have a light sheer over them with a valance. I pull the shades up during the day and lower then in afternoon.....I get some very hot sun shining in....and close them at night for privacy. The sheers provide enough cover so people can't just look in the window during the day.

I have blinds and curtains together (had no idea that wasnt 'fashionable! LOL). In the bedrooms we use room darkening drapes with prettier curtains over it.
personally I like the idea of the wood blinds with a sheer green curtain over it..that will give you some softness and the dark look you want.
Or I think a pretty dark brown curtain with sheer green on top of that (pull the green back and hook, kwim?) would be pretty?

HA! Me either, but I'll have to stay out of fashion!
Looks really nice Amanda. I love browns and greens together. Nice choice.

I couldn't find any casements or blinds I liked for my new dining room either.
So I just made my own..... Two screws and the entire unit slides off for easy painting without having to tape off the wood! Paint dries, slide it back, tighten two screws.....Po) I even made the walnut handle that slides and rotates the slats!
The Walnut and Birch slats match the ceiling I did in there. For more on that, see here: http://www.diychatroom.com/f49/my-40...ceiling-31309/

I'm sure I could, but why would Bruce Springsteen need to learn it?
He's rich and can hire anyone he wants to do it FOR him! (lucky !$$##@@!)

HA! Not THAT Boss DM. Too funny.
On a side note, my mom and I made curtains by my own design Christmas Break a year ago. I'll try and post them. It was quality time well spent.
