my friend suggested to me of using videos as a wall/room decoration by flat screens. she said this would in a way entertain guests and lighten up the room.

Do you mean hanging a digital frame up, or somehow using a television?

I've got a good news, another friend told me she's gonna try it on her daughter's birthday. I told her about it so she can have options for decors/entertainment since she's gonna throw a party and kids will be there. So, there. I'm gonna let you know of the result. Happy new year!
When we went to Disneyland the "Smart House" in Tomorrow land had many screens using this idea... they had digital frames and LCD TV's that actually changed to the person who was using the room's preference- ie- if mom touched the control panel and told it to make it "her' settings, everything changed from what dad or kid's had them set to. It was very cool.
For my kid's birthday party's we have our TV set to a media PC and I put on a slide show of them that includes photos from birth to their current age. Great "decor" and full of memories!
With the new Windows 7 media center, there are many options for nature scenes and photo shows as well.
