Default Tdi's Garden project

Allright, I have lots of pictures. I will post areas as I work on them and improve them.
My area of focus currently is the front garden:

The plan here: Take out bushes. Done. There were 4 HUGE square hideous evergreen bushes. They're outta there! Paint the foundation, window trim and porch. Semi-done. There was some white interior paint left in the garage from before we moved in. I threw 3 coats on the foundation so far. Later on we plan on getting some exterior paint and doing a better job. I'll get pictures of the white soon.
Next is to replace the bushes. I'm currently trying to propagate some roses, lilac and some unknown shrub in our yard. There will be one of each on each side of the porch. I also plan on making the the area on the right that goes along the walkway a flower bed, along with the other side of the walkway.
There's a lot to get done. I will also post some pictures of progress in other areas of the garden

It looks like you're coming right along with it. I can't wait to see it all bloomed out.

neat thread! It looks like a lot of work. Are you pulling the stumps out that are left over from the 4 bushes?

Thanks guys! Yeah, we took 3 out so far. There's one left. We've been taking them out by hand, which isn't horrible. Hubby's been using his sawsall and we pry it out. Hard work, but it does feel good once it's done.

My neighbor wrapped a rope around their shrubs and pulled them out with their truck. It worked, but I'd be very afraid of damaging the truck.

That's how we pulled ours out. Only we used a tow chain. It worked.

We even used that tow chain when we decided to eliminate the old deck, so we could build a new one. Worked like a charm. Only got one dent in the truck.

Just ONE dent? How big?

Man, that is looking great Tdi! So, how long will this propagating take? Good for you! I'm an instant type of person. I don't mind waiting on somethings to come up each year, but I want some form of shrubs.

I say this, and when we started there was nothing. It was very hard work....even with nothing to remove. I put in boxwoods first because they are an evergreen. I don't like alot of bareness in winter. I like at least something there that keeps it's leaves.

But, what am I saying???? Most things stay green here year round. Although this year, I lost most of my caladiums.

It's looking great Tdi! Can't wait to see the progress! Speaking of progress....my sofa came in today!!! YAY! Pics coming.....

Yeah, the dent is on the tailgate and you can't really see it unless you know it's there.

When we moved here, the first thing we did was to take out all of the boxwoods and rhododendrons. We are lucky enough, though that our place is green most of the year. We have a row of shore pines on one side and a mix of pines, firs and cedars on the other side. I love my trees.

I like the bareness of shrubs in the wintertime...but most of my winter time pictures are of bare trees..hmm..
Well, I got a few plants from a lady off plant swap today. One was yellow butter cups, so I planted one clump on each side of the stairs in the front. One in front of the chives and the other somewhere in the same area on the other side. I'll post a couple pics. The cuttings are still alive after about 3 days, so that's good. It should take a couple weeks to root and then in they go. No blooms this year, and they'll need to be protected. I might even keep them in for a couple months, harden them and get them in just before fall. This week I plan on starting to tear up that front lawn.
We don't have much money, so it's going to be the ol' shovel a patch out at a time. But, it's some good exercise!
I'm glad the dent wasn't big pinokeeo! LOL. We had a truck that we sold a month ago..shoulda waited...
My parents also got me some gerbera daisies to plant (they're my favorite flower). So I'll probably plant those in the front too! I also need to get another minirose bush (there's only one in the front garden in front of the porch) I'd like another one for the other side to match. I'm a very symmetrical kinda person I guess....
That lady also gave me some Canna bulbs, which are annuals here but I can dig them up each fall and save them. Also some hibiscus seeds, I'll probably start them in the front too. Also a honeysuckle vine, I'll start that in back. And some ground covering, also start it in back. We'll see!
As for edibles, I have about 10 pepper plants (6 are hot, 4 are bell) I'm going to plant another batch of those too. Also, I have about 10 tomato seedlings (6 romas, 4 beefstake) I'm going to do another round of them. And some herbs I need to start up. I have some lavender that came up. Also Stevia, garlic chives, dill and spearmint to plant. We'll see!
