The Wall Screen---need color ideas please!
The Boss and I made this a few years back. You can't tell from my redecorating pics in the other thread, but our house is like an 130 angle slap dab in the center of the house. There are no walls that connect from the kitchen area to the livingroom, so the entertainment center had it's ugly back showing. All the cable and electronic cords showing. I can't stand that!
So I purchased some saw horses, saw, drill, sander, boards, decorative doo-dads, paint, hinges, etc, etc. He walks in one afternoon from fishing and I have the workshop set up! LOL! He sighs and says, "What do you want me to do Dear?" I grin and say, "Not a thing honey! I think I can do this myself."
Oh no!!! That will not do! Have you gals ever seen a man get excited over tools??? They are a toy for a grown man! Next thing I know, he is using the saw saying, "No, you might hurt yourself dear. Let me do this." This coming from the same man that didn't dig a trench around the house for a sprinkling system, didn't help build the trelis, or put in a thermostat when the old one went kapooey! I shouldn't say much, he worked out of town so I just got it done!
Anyway, here it is and it no longer goes with the kitchen. Should I paint it black? I then thought about sanding it down again and staining it. When I'm through, I want to put our names on it and the date, so it will always be in the family. My mom did this with a few things of my father's and so I thought it would be something my husband and I could put on this too. For my kids.
So, any ideas? What do you see that this can become or be? I want you crafters's ideas!

I unintentionally got out of painting the kitchen cabinets kind of like that! I was doing a really horrible job apparently (read: I wasn't doing it the way he would do it) so Hubby took over. I haven't done anything like that intentionally yet but I did file that little piece of information away for whenI want to get out of a job i don't like! I hope he doesn't read this...
I wish I had a suggestion for you. do you want to showcase the screen or have it blend in? I really like the name and date idea.
Could you 'paste' pictures on it and seal them in? My Aunt has a screen full of holes for photos that looks really nice. She probably paid big bucks for it.

Are we sure he won't read this???? Hehehe...
Yeah, I thought about the picture deal, but I'd want it to be removeable. Actually, that's a great idea. Because if I did some little decor thing (like little minature paintings) I could slip them in and out. Make it interchangleable. Heh.
The kitchen table legs I painted black. They were country blue and did match the screen, but I changed all that! And it's the only thing left that I've not painted. Drives the Boss crazy. I have to "think" on things before rushing in. Some of my "thinking" last years before I make up my mind!
I just thought I'd ask since I still haven't come up with a definite answer!

I was thinking the picture Idea. Like a giant scrap book. Starting at one bottom edge and weaving the years up and down along the panel, of course leaving room for more. That is if you want it to be a conversation piece.

Thanks for responding Libbie! Well, if I do that, I think a black background would be best. Keeping with the French Country look, I can draw some French drawings. Maybe buildings or something. Ummm....
You made me think of my mom's lasted wall of pictures. My mom made a wall at her house that was nothing but black & white pics of the family. Almost like a family tree collage. If the photo wasn't black and white at the time of the picture, she made it b&w. They were framed in all different kinds of black frames. She even painted some old frames. Oh and the background was a pale yellow (sorry Angela! Heh.).
Thanks again Libbie. Some of you guys and gals come up with some cool ideas. Thanks again for the inputs ya'll.
Keep'em coming!!!!

Don't be silly! Just becuse I don't like yellow walls in MY home does not mean I can't like them in someone else's!
My parents had a wall like that too. Well, kind of. Colour pictures were left colour and there was no continuity to the frames... I was right in the middle! I'm the only child, so it was like my personal family tree.
I wonder if they did that again when they moved..... I had forgotten about it.
I can't wait to see what you end up doing with this screen!

I'm teasing you about the yeller color.
Well, I'm back to the closet at the moment. I broke my drill, so I'm trying to take down the metal shelf in the closet with the Boss's big drill. Must be a certain way to hold your mouth to work the thing though! I can't get the bits in it! &^$%#@ I gave up and am doing it the old fashion way. Right, with a screw driver and a phillips! If I can get it off, I'm going to paint it.
Why is it that when you "really" want to get something done, everything is against you???!! *sighs*
So, I guess what I'm saying is, I should have started on the wall screen! Surely the sander would have worked! Yeah, I'm thinking of making the screen black.

The nail one is really neat. You could do any design too. Although you like the fleur de lis, so why change it?
The picture frame one is what my aunt has, but I was thinking that you could do a collage of sorts, not cut holes in it.
I look forward to your final creation!
I hope you didn't really break the drill.

That's the word of the day for me, break!
Yeah, I'm not sure what I'll do with that screen. One day it will just "hit me" on what to do, and I'll be all over it!
