I just found this post - otherwise I'd have posted a looong time ago. My sister was actually just thinking about making one of these, but we didn't know how to go about it. (They're sooo expensive to buy!!)
Hope you can get that drill fixed - I'v broken so many of my dad's bits, I don't think I could count them all...
Honestly, I love the look you've already got. Different color, like black, would be really pretty, but I like that 'worn-out-look' (Don't know what that's actually called...) Maybe if you painted it black and then like sanded the corners and edges. That'd be neat.
I like all your ideas though. That fleur-de-lis thing's cute. (Fleur-de-lis, that's kinda fun to say.) I didn't know what that disign was called, I thought it was called pasley...
That covering it with fabric idea's good too.
So, I don't really have any suggestions, but I like everything y'all've showed so far. Sounds like a fun project.
Btw, I love your kitchen!!! (Or dining room, whatever the yeller part is.)

Ya like my yeller room KatieD? Angela does too, she is just glad it's not in her rooms. I love teasing Angela. Yes, it's the kitchen and dinning room. Yeller=Golden Buff
Yeah, I was kinda keeping the french country look. As it is, it's called crackle painting. You paint it a dark color (usually), it dries, and you paint over it with crackling glaze, dries and then paint a lighter color. It dries and you paint on the crackling glaze, when it dries, you have the old antique look. I think! It's been a while since I've painted this!
While typing this I found a link about it:
http://www.how-to-faux-finish.com/crackle-painting.html
I'm probably going to go with black. After stripping and sanding, I thought of a golden color, then having the black paint over that. This way I can sand off the edges of the screen so the gold will show. In the individual panels where the molding is, I'm going to do a floral. Most screens like this use roses, but my favorite flower is daisies. So I thought of yellow and white daises.
Hopefully, I can accomplish the look I want.

Hi, downrightart! I am aware of a procedure that I am playing with the ideea of starting using it for home decorating etc...Might be called "decoupage" and you can definetely use it for your screen, just in case you did not do anything with it, yet. I am attaching a few pictures I found on an European forum, participants made them all. Let me know what you think...me, for once, I am stunned...
Let me know what you think

Hey AnaV! I've never done decoupage. My mother has, but I've never even tried it. Those are nice. And no...........I'm as bad as BARB....I've not done a thing to the screen yet.
You would think that would bother me since it doesn't match a thing in the room!
Thanks....I might give it a shot!

Hello!
I would assume that if you go to a crafting store - like Michaels - you would find something that would match...either way, good luck and I can't wait to see what you've done!! Actually, I am very pleased to hear that you know about this from your mom - simply because I was to do this is a bathroom, on a standard vanity, so I can save some money. Could you advise me what I am supposed to use as a glue and the covering shiny layer...?

I thought it was hodge modge or something like that. Mamaslittlemonkeys (Amy) knows more about this than I do or one of the other members here.
WAIT! Do you mean your mirrors???

Absolutely!! Why not the mirrors as well? I am painting the vanity right now, waiting for the first layers to dry ( spray paint). Next, I should be able to apply a design using the decoupage technique. My problem is, I don't know what I need... .
Because this seems to be easy - applying on a white surface - after I get accustomed to the procedure, I could use the technique on my mirrors, as well... So, if you can find out what I should get/buy, you would do me a big favor, please...

Gracious, I've not used this kinda stuff at all AnaV. I did send mamaslittlemonkeys a PM. Hopefully, when the holiday is over, she will return.
I leave for my vacation tomorrow. I won't be returning until Thursday. Have a good one and I'll be baaaaack!

Most decoupage is mod podge. Its so fun bc its so versatile. and sooooo easy Basically you sand whatever you're going to cover if its necessary, brush it on, let it dry and enjoy!
