Default I want to start quilting - but don't know what to do

I've started several quilting projects (children's quilts) in the past but I've never finished them - my Mom's always finished them for me.

Well, I'd like to make something - doesn't have to be big - but something so I can go through a whole quilting project without losing interest or running out of steam before it's finished.

However, when it comes to something 'small' in the quilting department I can't think of anything that will be practicle.

Any ideas?

How about making a baby quilt? Or... maybe a really small quilt for a little girls' baby doll.

Do you know any little gals that love the American Girl dolls? Make a small red, white and blue quilt.

Good luck!

Actually, yes - my daughter loves playing with her dolls and My sister just had a little girl.

I'll do that, great idea! It's simple and I can have fun shopping for cutesie girlie fabric I've done a lot of non-quilting sewing so this shouldn't be too hard as long as I keep it simple and stay focused.

I made doll quilts for my 2 DD's and a foster girl who lives with my inlaws. The ones for my DD's got a little big and so took a little longer, but the other one I made 18 inches square and so it was super quick and easy! It's a great way to try a new technique, without committing to a huge quilt!

How about something very small at first? Like placemats, or potholders (just make sure you attach thick enough material - yowch!). These things should only take you a couple of hours to complete and then you can move on to larger projects when you're feeling more confident/up to the task

you could make some fabric postcards for the troops. This was my first ever quilt project and it was soooo small that there was no way I could lose interest. One square with borders on the left and right, felt batting, and bound with the backing. its a mini quilt with... in my opinion... a great cause.

The first quilt I ever made was a denim rag quilt for my husband. He loves it! It is backed with plaid flannel.........sort of heavy, but warm in the winter. It was so easy.

Do you have the necessary tools to begin quilting? If not, perhaps some of your first purchases should be a cutting mat and a rotary cutter. Then you would need some quilting rulers. Just start small. I think that was my first mistake. I wanted to start big, and I am still clueless about some things, like binding for instance.
