Default Zinnias; First Attempt at Art Quilting

I read a few books and looked online at all the techniques you can use for landscape quilting or art quilting. I then picked a few photos I had in my stash and most were flowers from my own backyard. This one are zinnias that our Ag department grew last year at school. Our Ag advisor first name is Stacy, so I am naming this one after her, Stacy's Zinnias.

Here are pics of my lay out. I picked most of the material from what I had stocked back. I have much material to use!

Please join me here as I grow learning a new world called Art Quilting.

Quilting is something I never really got into (other than tying baby quilts - which is not the same thing at all). I look forward to watching yours come to life!

Thanks Grem. I was never interested in it either! I still have a quilt started and have not done anything on it for almost a year now! But quilts made into art? Now, "that" interests me. And I can invision the end results a little sooner. In quilting and finding the pattern you want, that seems to hold my interest until all those little squares of interesting patterns have to be put to gather on a long scale! I lose interest.

And so, I have put these pieces on a much smaller canvas. And these pieces are all different. I even have to layer them like my drawings.

Even the drawing above is with one pencil (sepia) it is a layering process, making the drawing into a realistic picture by light to dark shading, giving the art piece some depth.

Here is the start of the first layer in my zinnias.

Thank you Angela! It really is moving fast. I am pleased for the very first one! I might not be able to do much this week on it, so I am giving you updates now.

This is so much fun! I just love it!

I haven't ironed on the leaves yet. But, I did want to show the layering of the pollen, center, and the leaves. They are overlapping the flowers.

This photo is inside and the colors look red. They are a pink fuchsia and dark pink.

It really is coming along nicely. I know what you mean about being able to envision the final product quickly. It can get discouraging when you feel like you've been doing the same thing over and over and not getting anywhere.

I like that I am free to make changes in my own layout. As I put it together I want to change some of my colors. Here is another update. I have 3 flowers done as far as the material.
