oh! me me! meeee! I'm so addicted. I have a good number of homemade drop spindles and after spinning up a good amount of fiber, dh finally decided that it was ok for me to get a wheel (he was hoping the addiction would pass and I'd go back to something that didn't reqire a new piece of furniture ) I'll be getting the heavenly handspinning ST (because it's cheap and has everything I've been looking for without having to buy all sorts of accessories) after we move and I'm sooo excited!

What kind of wheel do you have? What fibers have you spun and which are your favorites?

I have a schacht ladybug. I hope to get a matchless if our tax refund is enough. I'm also wanting to get some fiber processing equipment. I figure if I process my own fleece it will slow down the pounds of fiber I'm going through.

Right now I'm working on hats for the whole family. So far I've dyed enough for 4 hats, spun 3 of them and spinning the 4th. Need to start dying for the last 2 and get to knitting all of them.

oh I love the look of the ladybug! It doesn't really have what I'm looking for in a wheel (large orifice and large bobbin for chunky spinning) but I still want one just because of how perfect it looks

are you going for the full on drum carder or just some hand carders or combs? I have some combs here and it can be really soothing to comb and diz off the wool. I'm processing some Jacob fleece right now and separating it by color... it should all be processed in time to spin it on the new wheel -- yay!

OK, so when do you find the time to spin, dye and knit along with caring for your family? oh and do you dye then spin or spin then dye?

I plan on getting the bulky flyer for my bug. That will take care of the large orifice and bigger bobbins. Really only need bigger bobbins for plying anyways.

I want a drum carder and hand combs. I have wrist injuries so I'm sure doing everything by hand would be to much.

I've been dying my top before spinning. I use a crock pot, so it is easy to just leave it cooking. I don't even wash my dying crock pot . The kids are pretty good at letting me spin or knit while they are up. Sewing is impossible to do with my 2 yr old around.

We are trying to buy a BIG house that will give me 2 crafting/storage rooms. One of the rooms is a 2nd kitchen that would be perfect for dying and washing/ prepping fleece. I'm holding my breath that we get it.

I love the look of dyed first. What's your preffered method to ply?

I only dye with food grad dyes but I had accidently used one of my dying pots to boil some chicken for chicken noodle soup and the chicken turned pink... it totally looked like it didn't cook but it was just the koolaid

That would be amazing! What I wouldn't give to have a room for all my crafting... and what hubby wouldn't give to be able to shut the door and not look at it all spilling off the table

I only have the boring teaching spindles and I totally agree... having a pretty one would be really nice!

I'd love to see some of your stuff... I love looking at hand spun. What weight do you prefer spinning?
