I love to knit socks, so I always tend to spin a fingering or sport weight. actually started using a bigger spindle the other week and it took me forever to get the hang of spinning thicker again!

so this is the latest one I spun. It's Merino/silk and I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. but fell in love with the roving when I saw it.

This one is wenslydale and it's close to 400 yards. I have a mini shawl from Ravelry that I think I may use this for.

oh... a drum carder would be nice... I love looking at all the blended sparkly fluffy batts people can make on them

I think a drum carder is higher on my list over a second wheel at this moment. I want to do my own blends.

I love the look of dyed first. What's your preffered method to ply? Not sure what plying method I'm using, 2ply. I've only been spinning for just a month.

I only dye with food grad dyes but I had accidently used one of my dying pots to boil some chicken for chicken noodle soup and the chicken turned pink... it totally looked like it didn't cook but it was just the koolaid

Yeah I don't like to worry about what pans and such that I'm using right now. Once I have storage space for extra pans and stuff it won't be such a big deal. Dh did get me a huge stainless steal low rise stock pot for dying, my guess it's about 12-14qt. It only stands about half as tall as my reg 16qt pot.

that's why I had to give up on sewing. Mine are the same way

I'm scared mine will get hurt on the hot iron....not much you can sew without ironing.

That would be amazing! What I wouldn't give to have a room for all my crafting... and what hubby wouldn't give to be able to shut the door and not look at it all spilling off the table
We passed on the huge house because it needed to much work. Plus dh was scared about high heating and cooling bills. We are looking at another house 3 bedroom, but has a bonus room in the basment. So I can set up everything down there. Plus it has an mostly enclosed carport on the garage that I can do smelly fleece soaks in  Dh already said I could get a shed to store fleece in so his garage wouldn't smell like a barn

Yumm! You know... i'd love to take that first one off your hands... seeing as how you're not quite sure what you'll do with it

I started on a bigger spindle so I'm having a heck of a time going down and trying to spin thin.

Ha! Don't want the man cave smelling too much. yeah, electricity can be a pitb with a big home, especially if it doesn't have good insulation. You gotta love a hubby that's willing to embrace the hobby. We moved to our new place and mine was actually telling me where he envisioned my craft table and things... it was really sweet... because a couple years ago he would have given me the, "do you really need all this stuff?!" talk.

He's pretty good about wanting me to have my own space for crafting. I'm sure he wished I would contain all the crafting things to that space though. Right now the living room has been taken over with my spinning and yarn. Then the kitchen gets taken over when I dye.

Quilting is one thing I want to learn. I need to make the kids simple quilts for their beds, they need to be indestructible though. Got to stop spinning long enough to do it though. Spinning has even gotten in the way of knitting. Not going to get any better when my new matchless gets here

I just signed up for a class at my LYS to learn spinning on a drop spindle. I cant wait. I would love to get a wheel and learn that, but the cost and my toddler are deterring me. I think a spindle will be much more practical and portable for my life right now!
