oh spindle spinning is lots of fun! One of my ravelympic projects is spindling 4 oz into fingering weight in about 2 weeks. It should be fun and challenging. Once you get the hang of it it turns into a very enjoyable activity. But have patience. I was a park and drafter for about 2 years before I could actually spin while the spindle was going

My matchless arrived in late March and I have been spinning non-stop. This past week I finally decided I needed to start knitting up some. I'm making myself a over sized shawl to cuddle up with this winter. I've also gotten 8 raw fleeces this last week that I'm working on washing up.

*jealous* Sounds like so much fun. What pattern are you using for the shawl and what breed and how are you going to process up the fleeces?

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/query-shawl This is the shawl I'm making, but over sized by about 2x. I want a big shawl to cuddle up on the porch with. I am thinking about dropping the increases on the ends at a certain point to square up the wings some....plus I don't need them touching the ground.

I have 9 alpaca fleeces now. I just got another 2 last night for free. I also have a rambouillet and then a cross breed and it is SO curly. So far I've just been washing and spinning from the lock. I'm also picking as I spin so it's making for slower spinning. I tried to comb some alpaca and rambouillet and it makes spinning harder for me. I guess I need a combing 101 video or class

I almost bought a spinning wheel at my neighbor's garage sale... not sure what kind, but it's a reproduction and about 50 yrs old, but like new... and they quoted $25 obo for it ... BUT I promised DH I would not bring home any new crafty/hobby items unless we moved to a house with a dedicated crafting room... I should have bought it anyway, and at least found it a good home (it was still in their garage on monday)... I did tell them they could sell it for much more on Craigslist so wondering if they listed it there... I am VERY tempted to see if it's still there and buy it.

I would LOVE to learn and teach my kiddos the process- even if we only used it for a "school" learning exercise for homeschooling- let them wash the fleece, dye it, spin it and then make something from it ... then find a new home for it.

Still think DH would FLIP though... so I resist temptation!

You should buy it! Find someone that would store it for you until you have room for it. I got my first wheel when we lived in a tiny apt.

If I see them with the garage open and it's still there I will inquire My mom and dad have room And there is wool for sale everywhere around here- one person on Craigslist regularly has it for 2-3 per pound or bags for a flat rate.

Issue is I already have 2 sewing machines, a serger, painting supplies for water color, acrylics, and fabric, yarn, loom knitting looms, piles of fabric and sewing supplies, beading supplies, and other random things. We are working to find some screens for our bedroom so I can set up an "area", finances are tight so we havn't been able to find any in our price range that would work yet (we need 2 identical ones so buying used is a bit of a challenge). Currently do a lot of shuffling of supplies around and have my sewing machine in the bathroom which he HATES.

He reminded me that when we had our house built I did not have all these hobbies (well I had some, but not near as into any of them), and that if I had wanted a crafting space we would have looked into building one, but it wasn't on our house "want" so he asked me to not add any thing new, unless I want to move and get a house with a craft space- which I don't really want to do.
