Could the spinning wheel be used as a decorative piece in the living room, or other room? My grandma had one in her living room. She didn't use it, it was strictly a decorative piece. It sounds to me like something you would use, plus use as a teaching tool for your kids, and it would look good... If the price is right and you have somewhere to place it, it sounds like a win-win situation!
Or... if there is something you don't really use anymore, maybe tell your husband that in order to get this you will get rid of something else? (Or at least put it in the attic for now?)
Could you use some of these supplies and tools you already have to make screens? Even if they are "just for now, until you can get something better" screens?
