When I was quite little, I used to knit with the flat bones from old corsets, and used a wooden lollipop stick to crochet (no hooked end). I was 7 years old when I crocheted a doll's hat with the lollipop stick.

I made a crochet hook out of a wooden dowel. Someone asked me what size it was. Without thinking about hook sizes, I said it was 1/4 inch. You could probably make a crochet hook or a knitting needle out of just about anything long and slender.
I cannot master what I have not tried.

Strangers are just friends that we haven't met yet.
