Question So I got a knitting book for easter....

My boyfriend saw this (http://www.amazon.com/Punk-Knits-Des...0436938&sr=8-1) at the doller store and thought it was funny and knows I love anything crafty / artsy so he got it for me. While he was looking through it making fun of it I actually saw some things I like so I think Im going to try this. I was thinking of getting this beginner DVD (http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Begin...435544&sr=8-29) & this needle set (http://www.amazon.com/Knitting-Needl...435544&sr=8-21). Is there anything specific I should know or do you have better suggestions for beginner DVDs and/or books? Or even if you dont think the needles would be the best. Let me know. I know nothing about this and just think it would be fun and not so expensive to try compared to what I do now (glass art / photography). Thanks for your advice in advance.

warning: knitting can get very expensive very fast just ask my hubby

I'm not a huge fan of acrylic neeldes but they may work as great as beginner needles. I would also suggest checking out www.knittinghelp.com. They have video tutorials that are amazing and helpful to even advanced knitters.

Maybe check the library before you go buying dvds. They could have a great book to learn from and it wouldn't cost you a thing.

ooo, which dollar store? my daughter has been eyeing this book at the 1/2 price book store but $1 would be even better!!!

on the acryllic needles, yes they might work for a beginner but IMHO they are the lowest level of needle you can get and if you hate them you'll never want to use them so it's a total waste. I would recommend 1)looking for some needles at thrift stores, I've gotten them for $.50 a pair or 2) buying a single pair in different materials at a local craft store (metal, acryllic, bamboo, etc.) and see what you like or 3) if you're willing so to spend a little ($20) get a set of 8" bamboo double points from Amazon, bamboo is a good, all-purpose needle, they work for a lot of straight needle projects and will allow you to expand into circular knitting. I got my set from seller Stitchberry (not an endorsement, just a personal recommendation) and I really like them! If you go to their website off of Amazon they're offering free shipping.
