Angela-I can't wait to see your flowers and projects! Those are really neat!!

My project:
Make a picture box thingy-so I can take pictures of my products so they look good.
Get more things pictured and up on websites.
Fiddle with fusing plastic bags together and then make some things out of them.
More jars
Oh and work in the garden, since that is an ongoing project that will probably take YEARS!
Other than that, we go camping to the thousand islands at the end of this month, so we'll see what I get done.
I look forward to seeing everybody's projects!

After you remove all the edible watermelon from the rind, you remove the hard skin. What you are left with is the white fleshy rind in between. That's the part that gets pickled. You cut them up and brine them, then stuff them in jars with a sweet brine, seal them and then eat them when you want something different.

They are very sweet when you are done, so you can't eat very many of them at a time, but they taste very good. My Mama made them when I was young, so I'm going to try to make them. I bought a whole watermelon and saved all the rind. Next Monday, after my next show is over, I'm going to try this. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks Brittany. I finished the Christmas ball. I'll try to get a photo posted today. By picture box thingy, do you mean a light box like I posted about a while ago? If so, once you've scavenged all the material, they go together pretty quickly. I'm waiting to see what you are talking about by fusing bags.....

Pinokeeo, you may have to start a detailed thread about these watermelon pickles! I have never done anything like this. Am I understanding this right? You are going to take the awful, bitter white part of the watermelon, and make it into a yummy sweet treat? I need idiot-proof instructions because that sounds great!

Well, I don't know how successful I'll be, but I'm going to attempt to do just that. I'll try to get some in progress pictures.

Here's the shawl pins, all done. There's wild cherry, rosewood, satin maple, zebrawood and myrtlewood. These are so much fun to make.

The one on the far left reminds me of Lisa Simpson ! They look like they are nice to touch, if that makes any sense.... They look very smooth, and not as if they are coated in plastic (like varathane or something). Are they completely natural, or waxed? Or something.....
I am guessing that shawl pins hold a shawl together near the neck. How do these work? I can't visualize it...
Edit: Nevermind. I googled it before some smarty-pants did it for me..... (not mentioning any names..... )
That's neat. Do they stretch out the shawl?

They don't stretch the shawl at all. I experimented with loose crochet and very tight knit, and they both went right back to what they were after the pin was removed.

They have no finish on them. I burnish them with a pot scrubber to bring out the natural shine on them.

I also experimented this time around with the woodburning of the sacred spiral and was quite pleased with the results. I think the next time I make them I'm going to try some other woodburnings, just for fun.

Thanks Jessica
