I've also made these for my daughter and as gifts. Haven't tried to sell any yet though...
From reading the patent, it looks like they have effectively cornered the market on anything with ribbon tags attached to it though. From what I read, it looks like since you had tags on all 4 sides, even if it was only the corners, it was infringing. It seems like if it was only 2 sides of the blanket covered, they couldn't pull the item. Not worth it to me to try though... It really does stink for you!

Yeah its not worth it to fight it for me, I'll just keep on doing my thing. I totally absolutely respect that they spent the time and money on their patent but it is just ludicrous that they are SO broad with it. SO my loss is your gain

I agree. It's probably not worth it. I'd leave it alone too.
And I respect their rights where the patent is concerned too. But.... they're not supposed to generalize the way they are.
It's like a window company patenting a specific design for a window and then trying to block other window manufacturer's from producing windows of any size or type. Other windows that have been around for years.
JMO FWIW.
I think it's awfully nice of you to give the blanket away though.

Just wanted to clarify that I completely agree that it's ridiculous that the Taggies company has cornered the market on pieces of material with ribbons sewn on them! It's one of those things that make you go "aargh!!!". But their lawyer must have been really good, because when you dig down into the details of the patent, it is quite broad but encompassing...the picture is an example only, they cover uses of other materials, shapes and sizes, any number of ribbons can be used, they don't have to be loops, etc etc, blah blah blah.
Sorry for your frustration mama!! And congrats to your giveaway winner!

The lawyers must really have been digging because I didn't even 'tag' the blanket with "taggie" or anything!! That means they literally SEARCHED etsy for me.

If they don't protect their patent then it can become void, so yes they have people who look on sites like Etsy & Ebay for people selling them, they have for years.

Yes I know I had been previously contacted before but was told I was okay as long as I didnt use the word "taggie" in any way. So I altered my listings PER their requirements and I read the patent over and over to make sure my items were okay. Thats why this ticked me off. Their patent is now SO broad if you basically fold a ribbon and sew it in you've broken their patent. That's a tad too much.
