Default need help with a labeling project..

I bought the two little ones living with me some of those storage cubes with the cloth/canvas storage bins (cubeicals) to put their clothes in until I can get some money up for something a little nicer.

They are actually very cute but what I wanted to do was put a picture of what item of clothing was in each bin to get the 2 year old more involved in the getting ready process.

So I found some clipart online of different articles of clothing and the only thing I could come up with that would stay on the cubeicals is those t shirt iron on sheets that yo u can print on.

Now, I am sure that most of you that are familiar with ironing (I have always let my dryer do this for me since age 14) would already know that this was a bad idea. I put it on too hot, like the instructions suggested, the whole top melted off...too low or with a nice thick piece of fabric over it, and when it cooled it peeled right off.

I really was very excited about the idea but I cant seem to make it work out...any suggestions on how I can label these bins that would stay on real well...im saying really well because the 2 year old seems to have a case of OCD and if there was even a a tiny corner sticking up she would pull the whole label off. If I could draw decent I would use a fabric marker but I dont think it would come out too well.

Thanks for your help

I'm trying to picture this. Canvas cubes that slide into a shelf kinda? Can you post a picture? What do the cubes actually sit on? Could you label that?
(Some help I am.......)

No im sorry ..I am horrible at describing anything on a message boad. As far as labeling I need an area that is large enough to add on a picture that is at leat 3x3 inches because I am using clipart images..not words because its for a 2 year old.

I cant think of a darn thing that will stay on ..ack

heres a pic i stole..I hope I dont get in trouble

hmmm..I was following you up until you had to type sewn . Thats actually pretty great...I was hoping for something really flat because these little ones just love to tear things apart that are supposed to be attached... I remember when I worked at an office that we used DHL and they had these plastic sleeves to put the address order slips in ..it was pretty freaking sticky because if I put it on wrong , it was impossible to take off without ripping the bag. ah they would still rip it off if a corner peeled back.

thanks for the ideas ... I love having a place like this to brain storm

Could you make a stencil and trace the picture onto the cube with a sharpie? Or make a stencil and paint inside it kinda like a silhouette if the t-shirt (or whatever is in the cube)? Nothing to peel off that way.
Or get a friend to sew the pockets DM mentioned. I like that idea best, personally.

How about a clear luggage tag to put the picture in? Attached to the handle on the canvas box? Those must be pretty sturdy if they hold up to all the abuse they get from being mixed around with all the other luggage.

Spinoffs of other suggestions already mentioned: You could print out the pics, laminate them, and then use velcro to stick them -- you can buy sticky-backed velcro, or use craft glue/hot glue to affix it, and you wouldn't have to sew.

Like Barb said, you could also punch holes in the laminated pics and use ribbon to hang it from the handles!

If you don't have access to a laminating machine, you can buy some self laminating sheets at craft stores...sometimes they are on sale or you can use a coupon if you have one! Xyron is one brand that sells them, but I know there are others too.

Good ideas mamakaty.

Kimber, if you do use Velcro, go to the hardware store and get the 'Industrial Strength' kind. I bought some at Lowe's to hold sheets of 6 ml plastic that cover my rubber stamp shelves. That stuff is so strong that even I have a hard time pulling it apart. So far, the kids haven't been able to pull it off to get to the stamps.

I love the idea of the luggage tag with a pic slipped into it...later you can remove the tags easily when they don't need them anymore. Great idea!
