This is my trash to treasure for the trash.
I had a lot of wood I got free from Craigslist in my shed, taking up much needed space. I've been wanting to use it for a couple summers now.
Well, we had 2 trees cut down this summer in the front of the house and the one tree used to camouflage our ugly trash dumpster so it wasn't so noticeable from the street.
One day, after the trees were gone, I drove into the driveway and the dumpster was the first thing I saw. It stuck out like a sore thumb. So it occurred to me that I needed to put it somewhere (we don't have a garage).
My solution was an enclosure to hide it.
These are a few of the boards I started out with. They're cut to different lengths ranging from 39.5" to 42". That's how they were when I picked them up. They're just rough-sawed fence boards. One of them in the back has been sent through the planer.
All of these (below) have been planed on one side. There's quite a difference in them. I didn't plane both sides for 2 reasons. One, each board had to be sent through the planer so many times that they were getting thin. Two, I didn't want to dull the blades on the planer any more than necessary because I don't know how to remove them to be sharpened or replaced yet.
Anyway, the rough side of the boards will only be seen from inside the enclosure, which nobody's really going to see.
Below is part of it put together. You can see paint on one of the boards. Had this been something that would be visible later on, I would have planed that off.
The difference in the lengths of boards won't matter in the long run.
I didn't have any plans to follow, so I just looked at the scrap wood that was there and experimented with how it should be put together. Of course, there were a few measurements I made wrong because I hadn't thought far enough ahead. But, ya win some, ya lose some.
