Default Glue for wood

Hi all,

I am in the process of finishing a craft I started, but am unable to find a secure glue to attach lamented squares of plastic to wood. The glue has to go on smoothly and be secure as there will be 6 sides that will have the plastic attached. Does anyone know of a permanent glue that will go on smoothly and hold the plastic to wood? The surface will be touching surfaces so it must be secure and permanent. The best glue I have tried is used for jewelry as far as "hold", but it is dries lumpy!

HELP!

Thank you for any advice!

Contact cement or possibly flooring adhesive should accomplish your goal.
Depends on how much hold you desire. (flooring adhesive being stronger)

Flooring adhesive will also give you time to position the pieces before it dries.
What are you making?
Oh, and Hi and welcome to the forum!

Hi DM,

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I am glueing square plastic with image onto wood. I need the plastic to have a secure contact.

I never would have thought of floor adhesive, but it makes a lot of sense.

Many thanks!

Did you find something that worked?

Hi Barb,

Thank you so much for your asking! I haven't had time to go to a hardware store, but I am definitely going to try the floor adhesive, per DM's suggestion. It is so frustrating as I am ready to make my craft, but am unsure about how the image will stay.

Would you have any idea where I can find pre-cut tiny pieces of wood? Let's say about 5" long by 1/2 " wide? It is very hard for me to find such a thing. ( I went to Home Depot, AC Moore etc.) These tiny pieces would be put around the plastic and hold it as well as give a nice aesthetic look.

Thank you so much for your time.

Look in the section of your home improvement center where they sell moldings. You'll probably find just what you're looking for. They sell wood and simulated wood moldings, and the adhesive to attach them.

Hi Pinokeeo,

Thank you kindly for your response. I will check that out! I actually went to Home Depot and looked around, but didn't go to the molding section. It makes perfect sense!

Have a great day!

Also try the department where they sell cabinets/cupboards. I know they sell wood veneer that already has adhesive on it and it comes in a roll. They use it on the face of the cabinet frames and for furniture. It's sold in oak, maple, cherry, etc. I saw it at Menard's, but I'm sure most hardwares, Home Depot or Lowe's also sell it.

If there is a different name for it, I hope someone else here will know what it's called.

I think they call it laminate. It's still a veneer, by any other name.
