Default Wood Burning (pyrography)

Does anyone else do any woodburning projects? Do you also do pyrography on gourds or leather?

I do. I have been woodburning for about 6 years now as my primary medium of art. I burn mostly on baltic birch or italian poplar. I did try gourds but that just isn't for me, my brain doesn't work in 3d like that.

You can see some of my woodburnings, or prints from my woodburnings in my etsy shop. (I also have mixed media paintings in my shop, but it's pretty clear which are which). All of my tree's are pyrography pieces, most are mixed media, I usually add casein paint/graphite to my tree burnings (like the one in my avatar). www.thehauntedhollowtree.etsy.com

I love to chat about woodburning! Do you burn, what kind of work do you do?

I just took a look at your work and it is amazing. I am nowhere near that good. I burn on precut wood from Hobby Lobby but have been thinking of branching out a bit. Whenever my DS is a bit more cooperative, I'll upload an album of some of my work.

thanks! I really love woodburning and chatting w/ other pyrography artists. There used to be a great site dedicated specifically to Pyrography where they had a really active forum. I think it closed down though.

I have a {3 year old :devil2:} and a {one year old }who seem to be on constant strike, so I get you on the "cooperative" tip. Time is limited huh? Well clearly both of my kids are sleeping now because I have the time to insert little smilies into my post. Which means now it's time for me to get some sleep.

Well nice to meet you and I look forward to seeing your work! And hopefully other pyro artists will come along too!

Lightbulb Album Up!

I got my album with some of my work. I don't have pictures of my latest (and best) work b/c dumb dumb me forgot to take pictures of it before it was taken to our family Chinese Christmas(es). Anyway, I might see if the recipients could take a pic for me. I like to keep a pic of my work.

Oh fun, I love all of the different things you burn on! I had burned a few wooden bookmarks before and that was fun to do too.

I found that woodburning forum. I haven't been there in a long time but it looks like their message boards are still up. Lots of good info there if you dig through. http://www.woodburner.com/news.php

First I have to say Haunted that is beautiful work on your Etsy shop. Spektackular!!!!!!!

I was wondering where you get your wood to burn on, I am looking into getting a wood burning kit as it is something that I would like to try and I just did not know what kind of wood I should be useing. I am hoping that this will become a great stress reliever for me.

Thanks so much!

I have burned on thin italian poplar ply that I have bought from various sources. I bought a ton of it off of ebay a few years ago and like that the best of the other two places. I have also burned onto cradled birch panels from either Utrecht or Dick Blick and they are nice too. Lately I have been burning onto these thick solid birch panels that I bought from a guy online on the recommendation from a woodworker that I connected with on Twitter, but I can't for the life of me find the guy online that I had bought from. They are awesome and sand down to such a soft smooth surface. I only bought a few panels because the shipping was outrageous but I definitely want/need to get more. I am trying to track down my twitter friend but I haven't seen him around lately.
