Default Burger Buns

Apparently last week was a big bread-baking week for me. I made burger buns. They were soooo good!! My oldest was drooling over them and just wanted to eat the buns by themselves, lol. I made him wait until supper was ready though. Poor kid.

Anyway, here's the link to the recipe I used (great site, by the way): Burger Buns and here's the link to my blog post about them. Shameless self-promotion...sorry!

ohhh yum! how do you think they'd hold up if you threw in some whole wheat? or used all purpose flour instead?

I think if you used half whole-wheat flour it would be fine! They might be a bit heavier/denser though. And honestly, all-purpose flour should work fine too! I use bread flour when I have it, but sometimes run out. And I used all-purpose for years with no major issues.

Here's some info on flour that might help:
Bread flour contains the highest amount of gluten-forming proteins. Bread flour is the ideal for yeast-raised breads. All-purpose flour has a lower amount of proteins, making a weaker gluten network. All-purpose flour does not always withstand the actions of a mixer or bread machine. Whole-wheat flour contains only a small amount of gluten-forming proteins. Breads made with 100% whole-wheat flour will be heavier and dense. Substituting in some bread or all-purpose flour will provide more gluten, making the bread lighter and airier.

Oh I love fresh buns! I don't make them nearly often enough...I'll have to try this recipe!

I make my bun with whole wheat all the time. King Arthur has a great white wheat flour. I just bought an amazing wheat flour from Sams. Two 10 lb bags for less than $7. I bought 8 bags. It is a one time special. So I am not sure how long the sale is on for. It makes great bread. If I am using a regular wheat flour I will add a little white to it. I find it is too heavy if I don't. But with this lighter wheat you can just use the wheat. I love it. I usually throw in some flax and hemp too.

I think I may try this. I've never made bread before but the fresh hamburger buns look real tempting.
