Default Coffee Lovers

How many of you are coffee lovers? I didn't start drinking coffee until my early twenties. It was when I first start dating my husband. Both my parents were big coffee drinkers. I never liked the taste of coffee. I guess some things get better with age. Because now I LOVE coffee. Good, dark, rich coffee. I love Starbucks! I have cut back and started making more at home. Starbucks has raised their prices again!!! I started feeling guilty thinking how much dh and I would spend on coffee every week. I started buying coffee to make at home. I got a pot that you pour hot water through the top and it drains through. It is not electric. I love it. My Oma (German Grandmother) would make her coffee like this in a beautiful light green pot. It was almost ceremonial to me as a child. My Oma died 14 years ago. I miss her terribly. But every day I think of her as I pour hot water in the top of the pot. I can see her and my mother and aunts ga
gathered in her tiny kitchen talking and watching the coffee being made. Waiting to sip coffee and eat buttered rolls.

Such good memories that coffee can make.

So what's your favorite coffee? Do you have a good coffee memory?

Cindy

I don't like coffee. Although I love the smell of it. (I know that makes absolutely no sense ) My sixteen year old and my husband drink it.

I just wanted to say that I enjoyed your story. Who knew a coffee pot could be so wonderful!

I've been drinking coffee since I was old enough to hold a cup! I know many people won't agree with that, but oh well. I always drank it just like my Daddy did -- sugar only, no cream or anything else.

I love the Starbucks vanilla latte and cinnamon dolce latte. When I was working at the university, the student building was right across the parking lot, and there was a Starbucks inside the bookstore. They would fill up my travel mug for 50 cents -- that's a deal you couldn't beat! So every morning I'd go get my cup of Starbucks house blend. That was/is one thing I miss about working there, lol!!

My husband doesn't like coffee. Poor thing. But, um...my kids do...

Cindy - I love your story.

Right now, I have a Keurig one-cup machine. It was my mother's day present last year. It works since I'm really the only one that drinks coffee. And if I made a whole pot...well, I'd drink a whole pot!!

I know what you mean about the smell. Before I liked drinking it I loved the smell too. I knew something that smelled that good had to tste good. I think it was a matter of finding the coffee that I liked. It's like drinking seltzer when everyone says that Coke tastes so great. I find that every coffee tastes different. My girlfriend said we are coffee snobs. And I hear because I knit with natural fibers I am also a yarn snob. Really I am not a snob

My 16 likes coffee too but has found that any caffeine (even decaf) can really effect her. I am glad in a way. Caffeine at such a young age isn't good. Once in a while it's ok, but I see these really young kids drinking those monster drinks like its beer. Scarey!

Thanks, yeah my coffee pot is nice

Cindy

I love Starbucks! During the summer they gave out a free drink card to promote an iced coffee. You could get a free tall. If was so funny because I would pick up hubby once a week in the city. Right next to his office is a Starbucks and pretty much on every other corner. We would hit 3 of them before we left the city. Then when we got in NJ we would hit another. My daughter and son got a card too and would get drinks for us. It was so much fun. It was like we were addicts. They gave one out the next month for a hot drink and we did the whole thing again. I never had so much Starbucks coffee.

I love getting free coupons for a coffee when they mess up. Though lately they haven't done that anymore. Mess up occasionally but no coupons.

I hear Keurig is a really good machine. Does it get the coffee really hot. That's why I like my pot because I get the water just to boiling.

We always pick Starbucks for our mama and teen get togethers. They have open mic with really good music on Tues.
Time to make some coffee!!!!
Cindy
PS: My daughter likes her coffee black (when she treats herself)but I like a little sugar and milk. Dh likes a lot of sugar and milk. I like that he likes a lot of sugar because then he won't drink mine lol! I do like my espresso black.

It seems to get it plenty hot, IMO. I don't like super hot scalding coffee though.

I remembered that my grandmother had this contraption to make a single cup of coffee. It had a filter part where you put the coffee grounds, and then a cup (with holes in the bottom) that went on top of that. You put it on top of your mug, poured water into the top, and it dripped down and brewed the coffee. I bet she still has that in her cupboard somewhere...hmmm...

But it is the very hot water that is needed to make good coffee. Yes, your grandmothers sounds just like mine, except mine is an 8 cup pot. I have seen the single cup coffee maker in one of the coffee shops. But it was really expensive. I got my pot at Shoprite for $9.99

I use to like flavored coffee, but now I just like my coffee to taste like plain coffee. I do like Starbucks pumpkin latte but that is more like a dessert than a coffee. Expensive too....but soo good!

I like mine sweetened with milk. Not too strong.
