Garlic Prawns
I had an appetite for seafood recently and found this very easy recipe.
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
8 cloves of garlic, chopped
8 cloves of garlic, sliced
24 pieces prawns
half a lemon
cilantro leaves, chopped
salt and pepper
Heat oil and butter in medium heat. Fry sliced garlic until golden and save for later. Saute chopped garlic and prawns. Squeeze some lemon. Season with salt and pepper. Add chopped cilantro and crispy sliced garlic.
Serves 4
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
To make it diet-friendly, drop the butter from the recipe and prepare this dish with a generous amount of flavorful olive oil.
Do not over-cook the prawns.

Thank you for sharing. In the past I've prepared prawns just about the same way. I've never used cilantro though...maybe next time I make them I'll try and add some. Thanks!

No. Sorry. I know what I meant by that, I tend to forget that not everybody travels on the same train of thought as I do.
I'm pretty sure that tdiprincess is vegan, so it comes as a surprise to me that she is taking about making prawns. But, really, it isn't any of my business what she chooses to prepare and/or eat so I probably should have kept my fingers still.....
I'm sorry Brittany.

I don't eat the prawns! LOL.. I did in the past. I will still make them for my mom since she loves it! But, I don't eat it! (so no I'm not one of those veggies that still eats little fishies)
Actually, I found when I'm craving prawns it's actually because I'm craving garlic sauteed with olive oil and butter, so I'll make some pasta and toss it with those and it fills that taste! I grew up with prawns cooked with garlic, butter and olive oil, so it's definitely a fond childhood memory!
ETA: no offense taken BTW Angela! I knew what you meant though LOL.. and I'm not vegan anymore since I had too hard a time with cheese and milk. So just vegetarian. I still have vegan days, but not everyday..

Yeah, I bet it was hard trying to give up dairy (no milk, no cheese, no butter, NO ICECREAM???).
I thought a vegan diet was less strict than vegetarian, but I guess I had it backward.
So you don't eat any fish either? Wow, you must have loads more will-power than me.
But I've never eaten - or heard of - prawns. What are they like?

Prawns are shrimp. They come in a variety of sizes, but when I think of prawns, I think big shrimp. They are lovely with garlic and olive oil. Yummm.

prawns are pretty much shrimp. I think there might be small differences but usually they're interchangable.
So there's pescetarian: someone who only eats fish, not other meat and then veggies
there's vegetarian: no meat, no fish.
There's also some vegetarians that don't eat any eggs and some that don't drink milk but will eat cheese.
Then there's vegan:
Either dietary vegan: No meat or dairy products, no eggs.
Then there's "real" vegan: It goes beyond diet. They don't use honey, wool, leather. Anything from animals, byproduct or otherwise.
Me: I don't eat fish or meat. I don't drink too much milk and I try to stay away from cheese most days. I strive to have a few vegan days a week. I use a lot of non-dairy items such as I don't typically use butter anymore, it's much healthier to use something else. When I bake I generally use egg substitutes, such as ground flax. I don't typically use honey anymore. I never was a big user of it, so it was very easy to just not buy it anymore...
You'll find most vegetarians and vegans have different boundaries I guess you'd call it. It's a whole different world in its own. A vegan lifestyle is typcially quite healthy as long as not eating too many fatty things, vegetarian can be the same way if the majority of protein is from bean or grain sources compared to dairy or nuts.

Alright, so now I've got the inside scoop! Haha! I have a friend who's pescetarian. I think she eats fish. Then I used to sorta know a girl who was vegetarian. But I don't guess I've ever met a vegan. It'd be pretty hard to give up some of those things.
I'm, I guess, what you might call carnivorous. Haha! But I eat my veggies, too. And I drink milk. Lots of milk.
Thanks for the explaination! Very interesting.
