How do you cook your baked potatoes?
We're having baked potatoes tonight for dinner and it got me to thinking... how do you all cook yours and what kind of toppings do you put on them?
I get the smaller russetts and wash and dry. Then rub olive oil all over the outside, then salt, and bake at 350F on the wire rack of the oven without wrapping for about 45min to an hour. We then cut them open in half and smother them in cheddar cheese, butter, salt and pepper, broccoli, and I use sour cream or even better kefir cheese from trader joes.
So do you microwave, bake in foil, bbq, hate potatoes with a firey passion?

If I remember to do it in time... my fav is to wash them and put butter on the outside (probably the same thing as the olive oil) and bake them at 375 for about an hour or so... but when I am short on time I will microwave them on the potato setting and then when they are done there I bake them at 425 for about 10-15 minutes- that way the insides are done for sure, and the outsides still get the baked flavor.
For toppings it's usually hamburger gravy, sour cream, butter, salt and pepper .
I will eat them with other things, like cheese and chili, broc, etc., but the rest of the family won't so that is how I eat them if I make them for myself!

mmmmm twice baked are awesome but I'll only ever make them if I'm trying to show off to someone I love my kids but dinner shouldn't have to be that much work.
i've never thought about putting them in the oven after the microwave... duh... it makes perfect sense.

I wash them and cut out any ugly spots. Wrap them in foil and bake at 350° for an hour. I like butter, salt and sour cream on them. Or just butter and salt.
Once in a while I boil them for 30 minutes and then bake them for 30 minutes. They seem to have a nicer texture that way.
I ordered baked sweet potatoes at restaurants a few times. YUM!!!
I need to start making those at home.

I never think of having baked potatoes outside of BBQ season! I microwave them and then wrap them in foil (usually complaining that they are too hot too touch ) and throw them on the BBQ.
I usually just do butter and salt. Sour cream if I have any, but that is rare since I am the only one in the house who likes it.
I like them twice "baked" too. I'd microwave them, cut them into four, scoop out some of the potato and add cheese, green onion and bacon. *drool* That HAS to have sour cream with it. Mmmmmmmmm......
I wish I had some sour cream now!

I do mine the same as yours. I hear most wrap in foil but I never seem to have it in the house. We too like a lot of toppings. I have never tried TJ Kefir butter. I don't remember seeing it when I was there the other day. I will definitely look for it.
We had tacos the other day for dinner and lined up all the toppings and everyone made their own. I asked if this would be fun for baked potatoes in a couple of days. My 12 year old said he didn't like baked potatoes. Everyone else thought it was a good idea. I think he was just full from so many tacos! We wrapped the taco with a flour tortilla and it was so much easier for everyone, especially my 4 yr old to eat.
