Default Pressure Cookers

If you use a pressure cooker, how do you like it?

My friends husband uses theirs all the time. I bought one 8 or 10 years ago, thinking I could get roasts and beef stew to turn out as tender and delicious as what her husband makes.

I tried for a few months and never did get any meals to come out as perfect as theirs.

Does anyone have any hints, secrets or suggestions for using one?

Barb

I could not live without my pressure cooker. Bean soup in 18 min! It would normally take 3 hours. We are vegetarians and eat a lot of beans. Everything I put in the pot comes out so good. You can't get a thick gravy like that in a regular pot. I am running out now but will post more later. Love to talk pressure cooker! My friends don't let me because they are afraid of it. So silly!

You know, of all the kitchen appliances and gadgets I own, a pressure cooker is not one of them!! I'm not sure why. I know they are great, but I think I've always been worried about picking out the wrong one, lol. My grandmother canned when I was growing up, and the big canning pressure cookers are the only ones I've ever been around. I really ought to get one, especially for cooking beans and things.

Can't wait to learn more on this thread!!

I remember helping my mom can vegetables and the pressure cooking exploding was a big issue. That never happened at our house, but for some reason she was worried that it would.

Since then, I've never once heard of a pressure cooker exploding. But I know I was worried about it when I was using my new (now old) one a few years ago.

I'm looking forward to learning more about this too. I might have to get that pot out and dust it off!

So, what brands of pressure cookers do you have? What else do you use them for? I remember when I was in home ec in high school, we used one to fry chicken in...

The new ones are really safe. I think that was a lot of talk that our parents had with the older models. And I think the only way it could happen is if you opened the cooker before the pressure when down. The steam would scare you and stop you from doing that even if you tried to open it too early. I bring the pressure down in the sink with the cold water running on the top of the pot. I could not live without my pressure cooker. Black bean soup in 18 min that taste better than anything you have ever eaten out. I will share my recipe(so simple and fast) tonight. Running now to take the children skating
