Default Slow Cooker Recipes

Since i am a huge fan of my slow cooker

post your slow cooker recipes here!

I'll start with my awesome White Bread Recipe!

Sugar 2 tsp
warm water 1 1/4 cups
envelope active dry yeast 1 envelope (8 g)

stir water and sugar together in a bowl. sprinkle yeast on top. let sit for 10 minutes. stir to dissolve yeast.

all purpose flour 2 cups
sugar 2 TBsp
Cooking oil 2 TBsp
salt 1 tsp

add flour, sugar, cooing oil and salt. mix together till dough is slicky sticky with no lumps.

all purpose flour 1 cup

knead in flour little at at a time, till dough is stiff. may not use all of flour, and may need more flour depending on the dough.

grease bottom of slow cooker, turn dough into slow cooker. lay about 5 paper towels on top, put a wooden match or skewers between top of slow cooker and paper towel to let steam escape. put lid on top of paper towels. cook on high for 2 hrs. do not lift lid for first 1 1/2 hours. loosen sides with a knife and turn out of slow cooker when done.

*variations*

these are the variations i have done to the recipe. i also have a huge slow cooker, so i double it. it doubles well!! also letting it sit for about an hour before turning it on to cook, really makes it tastes even more!

but i've added some herbs and spices to it, like 1/4 cup of minced garlic, 1 tsp of oregano, 1/2 tsp of basil, 1 tsp of parsley. or you can do what ever variation you want. it works really well. just add them with the dry ingredients so it's mixed in well.

I've got a few that are "staples" and others that I've tried, and a million more in cookbooks!! Here are a couple that I've posted about, I'll post more here when I have time.

I love this turkey chili- it is so easy and amazing. I use organic canned beans and organic turkey if I can find it.

Here's the recipe I tried today. It was good, but I'm still deciding how to tweak it.

bumping this back up...will come back and edit to include some recipes.

Here's another recipe we like.

Chicken and Spaghetti

4 boneless/skinless chicken breasts
2 tbsp cooking oil
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1/2 cup water
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp oregano
1 tsp sugar
1 cup mozzarella cheese
hot cooked spaghetti
parmesan cheese, grated

In a skillet, brown the chicken in oil, then drain. Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper. Transfer to crockpot that has been sprayed with non stick cooking spray.

Combine tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, garlic, oregano and sugar in medium bowl. Mix well. Pout over chicken. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours.

Remove chicken and keep warm. Turn cooker to high heat; stir in mozzarella cheese and cook, covered, until cheese melts. Serve chicken and sauce over cooked spaghetti. Top with freshly grated parmesan.

Sunday Chicken Stew Recipe

6 Servings
Prep: 30 min.
Cook: 6-1/2 hours

Ingredients
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1 broiler/fryer chicken (3 pounds), cut up and skin removed
2 tablespoons canola oil
3 cups chicken broth
6 large carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces
2 celery ribs, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 large sweet onion, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
1-1/2 cups frozen peas

DUMPLINGS:
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup 2% milk

Directions
In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the flour, salt and pepper; add chicken, a few pieces at a time, and shake to coat. In a large skillet, brown chicken in oil; remove and keep warm. Gradually add broth to the skillet; bring to a boil.
In a 5-qt. slow cooker, layer the carrots, celery and onion; sprinkle with rosemary. Add the chicken and hot broth. Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or until chicken juices run clear, vegetables are tender and stew is bubbling.
Remove chicken; when cool enough to handle, remove meat from the bones and discard bones. Cut meat into bite-size pieces and return to the slow cooker. Stir in peas.
For dumplings, in a small bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt and rosemary. Combine the egg and milk; stir into dry ingredients. Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto simmering chicken mixture. Cover and cook on high for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in a dumpling comes out clean (do not lift the cover while simmering). Yield: 6 servings.
