Default Your best Thanksgiving recipes

Mrs. J's post today about Thanksgiving got me thinking about family recipes.

Does anyone have a special dish that everyone loves?

It would be great to have some new recipes to try this year.

You get bonus points if you have a good recipe for sweet potatoes!

This is my first year hosting Thanksgiving. I LOVE to cook and bake but dont have any special Thanksgiving recipes.... YET. Saturday I made Apple Blackberry pie I took the idea from Martha and made it my own way. I loved doing the top of the pie crust in leaf cut outs. My hunny walked in the kitchen and said why do you want to make it so pretty when we are just going to eat it.... Well I like to take pride in my cooking and love always makes it taste better The pies didn't last long I made two pies an there is only one peice left. They did look very pretty while they lasted though.

That sounds like a good number of people to have over, especially for this being the first time at your house.

I bet your daughter's are getting excited! Will they be helping with the preparations?

oh yeah they all want to help. They have this week off of school to. I am working on getting ready I am going to start making the pies today. I will have to make some cookies as well so my Hunny Anthony keeps his hands off the pies LOL I am going to make twice baked potatoes as well so I am going to start on them as well. I am not going to make a whole turkey just the turkey breast because Anthony wants lasagna as well. I am also going to start on cranberry compote I seen a recipe today that looked good so I am going to try it.

I made rolls (cheated and used Rhode's frozen)
Spinach dip (yummy)
and sweet potatoes.

The rolls were great.

The spinach dip was addicting.

I'll never know how the sweet potatoes tasted.

They were in a glass mixing bowl covered with plastic wrap and I put the bowl in one of those plastic grocery bags so it would be easy to carry and to catch any drips.

My husband was carrying that bag with 5 or 6 other bags in one hand and tried to hand all the bags off to me at once. I got most of the other bags, but the one with the sweet potatoes fell about 18" down to my mom's ceramic floor and the bowl shattered. So no sweet 'taters for supper.

Whatayagonnado?

MCP, you were busy busy busy! It all sounds so good!
