I'd be scared to mow the lawn of that first house in the third post. It looks rather steep!
Those houses are beautiful. They look huge. I'd hate to have to try to keep a house that large clean!
Love the big porches .
So which one is yours?

As I was walking along taking these pics, I noticed that some of the houses have sheets of plastic hanging in front of them or rolled up above the porch.
At first I thought that, since they're old houses, maybe they're cold and drafty in the winter, with little insulation in the walls. Plus, old windows can be drafty. And being directly across the street from the lake, they probably get some strong, cold winds. But I don't think that's what the plastic is for.
It can't be to keep bugs out, because it's not sealed tight.
If anyone knows why they hang it there in the summer, please chime in.
to be cont'd....

I guess that would be a great excuse for hiring a lawn service.
Which one is mine? Well.... in my dreams, it's the last one in post #2.
The only thing wrong with that one is, on the lawn to the right of the house, the city put a steel catwalk(?) that starts in their yard or the adjoining lot and goes across the highway to the park on the beach.
I didn't get a picture of it, and I'm not sure that's what it's called, but it's an ugly steel bridge above the road for people to walk on so they don't have to cross traffic. I'm pretty sure it was a necessity there though, as there is a playground on the block behind the house and people were probably walking with their kids through the traffic.
But either way, if the owner of the home called me today and offered it to me for free.... well, no, I couldn't afford the taxes and upkeep on it.
It sure would be sweet to have any one of these homes' huge front porches with their view of the lake though. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them are rented out by the week during the summer.

This is in a different part of town, a few blocks away from the lake. I'm not sure what's up with the big round lights in this neighborhood, but quite a few of the houses have them, either in white or multiple colors. I'll post pics of some of those houses in a day or two.
This is a 'house' that's on the college campus there in town. I was under the impression that it's used for offices. If I find out, I'll post it later as I may have taken a picture of the plaque on the wall. It had something to do with the womens' temperance movement.
There is a picture of this house in the daylight, but it's with some other pictures. I'll post it soon.

Those are some beautiful houses. I really like the style of these homes. As far as the plastic goes, my thought is that it is like temporary windows, used as a wind block for sitting on the front porch. My other thought is that older people live there and after covering all of their living room furniture, they had some plastic left over and thought "why not".

And it might be that the plastic gives some UV protection, I don't know.
Barb: Next time you're there, knock on a door and ask. If a bunch of them do it, they must have some good reason.
