This is in a different part of town, a few blocks away from the lake. I'm not sure what's up with the big round lights in this neighborhood, but quite a few of the houses have them, either in white or multiple colors. I'll post pics of some of those houses in a day or two.

This is a 'house' that's on the college campus there in town. I was under the impression that it's used for offices. If I find out, I'll post it later as I may have taken a picture of the plaque on the wall. It had something to do with the womens' temperance movement.

There is a picture of this house in the daylight, but it's with some other pictures. I'll post it soon.

I don't know about you...but those big globe lights look way out of place there.

Barb, have you ever been out to San Francisco and seen the "Painted Ladies"?

The first time I was out there I couldn't believe it. Some of the most interesting architecture and incredible colours on the planet. If there is anyone reading the thread and you are in or near S.F. maybe you could post some current pix...???

Keith, I haven't been there, but I just googled it and looked at a couple pics. Wow! They are amazing! The details are incredible.

I think the only drawback to owning one of those houses would be painting the exterior. lol.

Do you think they have to get a permit to make any changes to the exterior of those homes? Or even to change paint colors?

I thought so too. Even more so on the other houses in town. I'll post those pics some time today.

I thought they were hard wired in, but from the picture taken on the porch, it looks like they're the plug-in type.

That is entirely possible, particularly with regard to any physical changes.

There is a section of Vancouver with some lovely old houses, and city hall has a separate file for each house. They are extremely limited with regard to any changes they can make. They even have a specified list of muted colours they are allowed to use.

And no vinyl siding, definitely no vinyl.

It would be hard to own a home and have someone telling you what you can and can't do. But, without those laws, some people probably would cover up the beauty and charm of those houses with vinyl. That would be a shame.

I bet they're beautiful.
