You might check with your local hospital to see if they can use hats in the newborn nursery/NICU, or maybe for kids & adults that are undergoing cancer treatment? Blankets for patients at nursing homes. Items for women's protective services? Just a few thoughts I had!

I think it's so great that you are looking to crochet for charities.

The local hospitals are a great idea. You also may find other ideas on this site: http://www.crochetnmore.com/123charitylinks.htm. I know that Project Linus and Warm Up America are some pretty well-known charities.

You can also do prayer shawls for people in your church/community.

Good luck!

I know that the Michalel's craft stores in my area collect 6" X 9" rectangles, either crocheted or knitted. They put them together for Keep America Warm. Also some pet shelters like cage liners.

Linus usually accepts afghans in all sizes that are given to needy children.
