Default crocheting ideas

so i have a tonnn of yarn. okay, so not as much as i have seen others with, but i have been told i HAVE to use it before i can move onto other yarn.

Tired of hats, and no stuffing for Ami's.

Ideas? has to be simple, although i have been crocheting for years, i still can barely read patterns. i'm more a visual person.

i also have alot of ugly yarn. maybe i can turn it into something beautiful.

I guess scarves are simple enough to make. Check out Crochet Pattern Central. They have tons of pattern in may different categories.

Re the ugly yarn, you can probably make something useful. with it. How about making a granny square blanket. Just keep making the granny square bigger and bigger, adding on a new color whenever you finish one. Even though it may not be pretty, there are shelters for abused women and children, or special homes for children in need. Perhaps a local church or synagogue is collecting them for needy families and you can also donate them to Linus organizations. You can also make blankets for pet shelters.

Blankets use up a lot of yarn You can sometimes get some nice looks out of even ugly yarn too.
Baby items are always popular for shelters and hospitals too. Things like hats, booties, and mittens.

I'm in the same boat. bits of ugly yarn and whole skeins of yarn i hate that i have to use before my man lets me get more hahaha. try making baby blankets, slippers or baby bonnets. you can then donate those to various causes. try at your local church. or join a granny square exchange. granny's are really fast and simple to make and if you use a large hook the work is done even faster. once you have a whole lot of squares maybe take a look at your work and see how you can put them together, maybe make a rug, maybe a keepsake blanket for a child or loved one. Be creative, maybe pick them at random and sew them at random. could be fun, eh?

not sure if we're supposed to point out other forums on here, but ravelry has TONS of patterns and tutorials and whatnot that will help inspire you, but it won't help you get rid of your stash, cause it will just inspire you to buy more yarn!

I like making kerchief but they are like hats??? I love making food for my DD's kitchen. Ithere are i-pod cozies and chapstick cozies. Some of the coolest shoes in the world IMO http://hookcandy.com/ (not my pattern but I make them for all my friends!) If you want details just ask (because like like PP I am not sure if I am allowed to post other sites but ravelry rocks and craftster too). I am traveling back home so it may be a day or two before I respond.

I know you said you're sick of hats, but since you have ugly yarns I wanted to mention that you can make basic skull caps for our troops overseas- they wear them under their helmets. My grandma has made tons of them-I do not know where she sends them, but I'm sure you can find out online. They have to be dark colors like grays and browns, etc, so it's perfect for the not-so-pretty yarns in your stash.
