If you are going to crochet with those bags, the tan ones work very well. I made my first purse with tan bags from my local Pathmark store. The printing on it mad little flecks of color. The bags were a little thin and even though I cut my strips 1" wide, I used a smaller hook, I think it might even have been a G. It came out looking like a tan summer straw bag with flecks of color. I even lined the purse and put a zipper on it.

That sounds really nice! Would love to see a picture.
The white bag was crocheted with a J hook and the tan bag was done with a G hook. Pathmark used to have tan bags and the printing was red/black or red/blue which works out as little flecks of color. Then they changed the colors to red/ble on white. Both bags are lined with muslin and has a little pocket inside. The tan one has a zipper. I used the same basic pattern for the bag itself. Ny daughter knit a larger tote which I lined for her.

Whoa, your bags are great! I made one but didn't line it. I don't know how to sew on a machine and didn't want to do it by hand. Yours came out really good.

GORGEOUS! It's so hard to believe they are made out of plastic grocery/shopping bags. I mean, looking closely I can tell, but if I didn't know better I probably wouldn't guess.
I used muslin and wrapped it around the bag from top to bottom to top again. I pinned the sides then basted it to see if it would fit. Once I got it to fit. I cut it making it a few inches longer. Then I sewed the sides and inserted it to check the fit again. If necessary I took it in or let it out. It's a lot of trial and error. Once I got it right, I stitched the bottom corner to make a base and folded down the top to fit the length. Then I slip stitched/hemmed the lining to the inside of the bag., trying not to pierce the plastic. I tried to stitch around each single crochet stitch. I hope this makes sense. It's just like lining a fabric tote/bag. There are many tutorials on ling totes that might help you. I didn't use one. I just winged it.
