Default Slippers

Has anyone done felted wool slippers? I'm going to try a pair for my DH. I loves the slipper socks I make him out of cheap acrylic yarn but they wear out after 1 year of heavy wear. I thought felted wool might be more durable.

I haven't tried wool yet, what weight acrylic yarn are you using? are you using a tight stitch or a loose one? it may have something to do with wear and tear.

the Yarn Harlot just felted slippers- she didn't enjoy it too much, ended up putting them in a tub and plunging them with a new plunger? lol, I don't know- but I do know she was happy she did it once they were done.

you could also try getting the fiber trends soles... that would help with the wearing out part. But felting is much more durable.

I haven't made felted slippers (yet - I have plans for a pair), but I made a felted bag last year. It's pretty easy to felt, but you need to remember that the item will "shrink" as it felts - and more width-wise than length-wise. When my family and I were looking at slipper patterns this weekend, Mom suggested that double-soled slippers are always better - I'm assuming they last longer.
