I was inspired by Sarah

... but I used transfer paper and muslin to make my photos, and then sewed them on top of my squares

... This is for my dad, who had a heart attact/stroke on April 22- he wasn't supposed to live, and two and half weeks after the incident he was home on hospice, and the visiting people saw all signs that death would be within hours- they had a prayer meeting in his room that night, and the signs (moteling of the feet was one) reversed, and although he's not "back" yet, this week, he walked with help, said "Hi" for the first time, and started smiling at funny things. He's in CT (he was on his way home from there with mom- at the airport when it happened), and all of us are in WA state. So thought this could sit on his lap and help him with memory

.
Have to quilt it (Monday with my aunt who knows how to do such things- this is my first quilting attempt- had to re-do some things on the fly as I forgot the need for more seam allowances for rows with more pieces than others), and bind it, but was getting excited and wanted to share:
First I laid out the photos (followed transfer instructions to get them onto muslin), on grids cut from about 1" graph paper sheets.. and laid out the pattern...

Then I drew the dimensions and then a second one on smaller graph paper (this is where I should have added the seam allowances woops!) with the colors placement...
Then I cut all the inside pieces and laid it out again...
Then I sewed the whole thing together, cutting it down on the sides before adding borders to even it up due to my seam allowance issue...

My applique stitching isn't the best, and pics got a little crooked (couldn't use my all fave steam a seam, b/c the heat to apply melted the photo transfer paper). But I think he and mom will like it

Final result...
