Orrrr..... here's an idea using this as a basis.
How about cutting off the bottom of a peanut butter jar as shown, PL or epoxy the lid of the PB jar to the inside of the can lid and then PL in the sleeve.
If you find a can and jar that fit inside each other, no need to trim the bottom, of course. Annnnnndddd *PRESTO!* Instant "shelf safe", or "hiding place"!
(keep your other half out of your egg money? lol)
I'd probably add a bunch of nails or other metal scrap glued in around the outside of the sleeve to give it the right feel if picked up. Foam rubber inside as padding would help too.
The wife should get one of the right kind of can openers today, I'll post a pic when I finish one.

I like this idea better. The lid can be removed as often as you like, not just once like with the pull tab.

Good idea DM!

Thanks Barb, but your idea is cool as a present/giveaway!

If you used a can with the pull tab for my version, it'd greatly add to the illusion, of course. Leave the price tag on it too! Of course, there's always the chance someone will want what they think is in the can.... maybe use a lima bean can?
butter beans? something no-one would EVER want to open.....

DM, maybe I'm more tired than I thought, but I don't understand your peanut butter jar thingy at all. When you post your completed one, hopefully I'll get it, but if not.... be prepared to dumb it down for me!

Stores still put price tags on items????

Jrits. You are a genius. If I can't get my hands on something I want to eat with a pull tab, I'll just use a regular can and have my recipients use the can opener to get into it! (of course, I'll need a new one. My youngest doesn't even try any more. She just gets me or her Dad to open her cans. It has become a very finicky can opener)

Will it still count for the contest if I don't use a pull tab can?

Sure, but.... if you use a regular can opener, how can you get the lid back on?

It would be interesting to see how that can be done.

no, you'd still use the special one to make the item but you'd have your recipient use their regular one to open it.

Oh! I get it. Sorry... I'm a little dense at times (possible cause: dirty diaper fumes ).

Thanks for explaining it.
