Default something warm...

This sounds fun. I will crochet a warm children's hat.

Here is my entry.
My daughter asked if there was anything I could to to (with?) a pair of gloves so that she could use her iPod without taking them off. I don't know how they work, but you can't do anything with an iPod if your fingers are covered. I had an idea to try to make the tip of the thumb flip over but when I looked online there were no tutorials for it. I did find instructions that used something called 'conductive thread'. And it is soooooo easy! My local fabric store has never heard of such a thing. I bought a cheap-o spool of metallic thread, hoping that would conduct whatever needs to be conducted. I tested that on a scrap of fleece. Nope. It doesn't work. I tried some nylon coated beading wire. I hoped that the coating would not scratch the iPod, but the wire would work. Nope. My test fleece is here:

So I got a pair of dollar store gloves:

and cut a slit in the thumb. I sewed a piece of elastic to the thumb piece, hoping that would help 'keep the warm in', and I sewed a little piece of black fabric onto the flap to allow it to overlap when the thumb is 'closed' again.

It isn't as beautiful as I had hoped, but not bad for a first attempt with absolutely no instructions to follow! And it works! If I try again, I will make the fabric on the flap more rounded and use the same fabric on the inside thumb piece (it is stretchy) instead of the ugly elastic.

I just altered one glove because I only use my iPod with my left hand for some reason, I'm not sure about my daughter. I'm going to wait to see what she thinks of this one before I go any further.

That's clever Angela! And without any instructions to follow? I couldn't have pulled that off.

You can put Bon Jovi on an mp3 player? Hmm.

Very clever, I'd say. Nicely done.

Haha! Good eye! I picked that out intentionally! It was actually playing Drowning Pool, but I had to have Bon Jovi for photograph purposes!

My daughter seems to think it is okay. She can't remember if she needs both hands or not! She isn't fond of the actual gloves themselves. So I may consider these to be practise and make her a pair that she actually likes later.

There is a new contest with a new theme every month. They are pretty easy-going here. If you can 'justify' how your item fits the theme, they are usually good with it. Rasha runs this contest and whatever she tells you is official.
Did you have something in mind? If you are unsure and you post your idea, she will definitely tell you if it counts.

Tracy your poncho looks great. and toasty too!
Angela is right. As long as you can justify how it fits the winter theme, then it counts. For example: If you embroider snowflakes it would count, but if you embroider flowers it wouldn't fit the winter theme.

Have fun with it and I can't wait to see what you make!
