 Men! Heh. I'd be making a big deal too if you did a great job drawing me!
When I was in college we had to do nudes. I remember hiding my sketch book from my mom. She did find it once and I caught her thumbing through them. My mother asked is that what I was learning in college. I told her, "Pretty much mom. They want us to learn human form." She mumbled and said, "Well, you are doing pretty good." Tough moment, but we got through it.
'Course it's nothing like today. But, back then, that was probably the hardest thing I had to do, sketch live forms, in the nude, while other artists are in the room also.

Hopefully you at least had good looking models... nearly all the models my life drawing class had were over 50 and over weight ><; and I made sure that if I was going to be drawing any side of them it WAS NOT the front side ><;
thankfully though my teacher was really laid back and I mostly just ended up drawing all the other people in class while they were drawing the model ^w^\

I went to a highschool that had an amazing visual arts program. People would have to apply to get into it (They still do). I went there because it was the school I was supposed to go to based on where I lived -I am not/was not into the visual arts. But someone told me that the models are "larger" because they are more interesting to draw. Something about curves and shadows?

I don't think that's right especially when your suppose to be drawing things based on muscle structure and they have no "muscle"

 No, they were usually young. Why for they want to give you an old wore out shoe? Oh yeah, that's right.......for character!

Actually old people's faces are a thing of art. I know you might not see it now, but they are.
Ummm..........I wonder if I can find that watercolor my friend did years ago.....she loved doing old Native Americans, men and women. They were very good.
Muscle tone is good for form, I agree. Why didn't they get the weightlifting team?

I so wish they would have, all but one of the people that came into my class for models not even interesting, just boring not worth looking at let alone drawing.
The only person they actually got worth drawing was a cute guy that was probably between 25-35 years of age, a little too thin but he at least had some muscle to him... unfortunately we only got to draw him one day. So not fair!

That's one of the things that I don't like.........someone else picking my subject. I like the chance of at least choosing a multiple of choices. Like when doing Pop Art, there are many subjects/items you can choose from.
But, think of it more as a learning experience Fem. Not all of life is pretty and perfect. I find myself finding art in the weirdest places. Kinda like this piece. This is was taken years ago of the backside of my husband's swim trunks. He just got out of the water. My daughter had the camera and I pointed at his trunks and said, "Take a pic of your dad." She laughed and did.
Out of all the beautiful river scenes, water, and landscapes....I ended up taking this one as my colored pencil project. Lots of folds and not very flattering, but I liked the humor in the piece too! It's called Hindsight.
