Default grass mat

Don't know for sure if this would count as a "recycled" craft, but it is as close as I've ever done...

I "recycled" some of the grass from our backyard into a mini "grass mat". Our lesson on Sunday was on Jesus's boyhood. Part of the lesson was that he didn't have a bed like we do, he slept on a grass mat. So, I figured I would try to make a grass mat so the kids could see what it looked like. So, I went into our jungle of a back yard (I haven't mowed for a while) and cut some of the longer grass. Then I pulled out some of my jute garden twine, and tried my very first grass mat.

I think it turned out fairly well. The kids all thought it was pretty cool (and that it smelled good!).

So, a pic in progress,

and a pic of it done.

Wow! It looks great. I'm glad to see you getting into the spirit of the challenge.

Maybe we also need a section for nature crafts.

That's neat gremlin! And what a nice project for the kids to get them thinking about the way Jesus lived - without our modern conveniences. It's something I hadn't ever thought about.

This was the first time I'd every done anything like this. It was actually kind of fun. I may try something like this again. My sister jut got a pet rabbit - maybe I could make a grass mat using grass for both directions.....that way it would be completely edible for her rabbit.

That's really cool! First time I've ever seen a grass mat. Great idea to use it for Sunday school with kids. It's rather humbling to see that.
