Rag Rugs

I've never made a rag rug. Atleast not out of rags. I've only crocheted with scrap yarn and made one. I saw where Keeo is making some more rag rugs and wondered if she was crocheting the long scraps of material, or braiding them. Anyone have any to show and tell?

I crochet my rag rugs. I use what is called a disappearing knot to tie the pieces together, and it's a single crochet stitch all the way through. You just have to add an extra stitch here and there on the corners.

I have one in progress right now, but I really don't have the time to do a full tutorial. I have back-to-back shows coming up (three of them in a five week period of time), but after that I could probably try to do a tutorial on rugmaking.

That would be cool. Just whenever you get the time Keeo. Thanks!

Hey d-r-a
I've made a couple of 'toothbrush' rugs so far and a braided sewn one. Below is an instructional video for the toothbrush one which I learned off (hope this is allowed :whistling2: - if not grab the address quick!!!) But just google 'rag rugs' and you come up with heaps of sites and youtube videos.

I made a simple tool by taking a length of wire coathanger (about 4" long) and twisting it into a sort of needle. Looks like this.....

And while one person on this site said they made one in a day I don't believe that for a moment. Unless they made it for a Barbie doll lol. They do take time to make.
The one above is a work in progress.
The one below is is known as 'the b****y rug that won't lay flat'.

Be careful!!!
Work on a flat surface or you'll end up with a large bowl - like I did

Thanks Wand! They look really nice!

Whoever said they could make a toothbrush rug in a day? That looks like a lot of work. And it does look very nice.

I've made rag rugs in a day, only because I crochet really fast. It takes time to tie the rags together, but it can be done.

The ingredients used in this premium dog food are fresh and natural food restaurants near me. Several golden retriever experts recommend this as one of the best food. Orijen is readily available for an affordable price.
