Default How and why did you start scrapbooking?

What made you decide to start scrapbooking?

I was dragged into it kicking and screaming. lol

My friend told me about it and tried, many times, to convince me to try it.

I didn't want to. I was working full-time at a bakery and there were so many repairs that needed to be done in this house. Plus, the extent of my artistic ability was staying in the lines with crayons on the coloring book pages.

Well, bless her heart, she knew me well enough to know that it's something I would enjoy and be able to do well. So she gave me some scrapbooking stuff for a birthday present and the same day we went to our local S.B. store.

I was hooked.

A lot of people I've talked to say they went to a Creative Memories party and got addicted there.

A Stampin' Up! party got me started on rubber stamping. Yikes!

I created my first scrapbook when I was 16, I wanted to document every date me and my then boyfriend (now husband) went on. I just started sticking pictures and memorabilia down in a notebook.

Not long after that I stepped into a scrapbooking store for the first time and thought that I had died and gone to heaven. LOL

Now 18 years and 3 kids later, I make time to do something scrappy everyday, even if it's just sketching out a layout.

I started to Scrap...to preserve old photos and to identify older relatives. I made CD's and then DVD's for each of my children ...of all their photos....my oldest is now 40, so I just keep adding Volumes.

I was just afraid of losing memories. We use a Digital camera and one time our memory card went bad and lost some great photos. I realized that digital cameras are great but you can easily lose your photos if your not careful. Also, there's something about having a physical photo to look at.

Anyways, after printing off photos I wanted to keep them in a book and it just grew from there. sometimes the craft store can be dangerous!

It sounds like you're up-to-date on your photo's and albums Mrs J. I wish I could say the same.

You're right about getting the photo's printed Stamp Crazy. Sorry to hear that you lost all the photo's on that card. Do you make an extra CD of your photo's to keep somewhere other than your house in case of a fire?

You're also right about those craft stores being dangerous. A person could go broke shopping there. But they'd be the happiest broke person in the world. lol

I don't do scrapbooking BUT i do geneology. I have found the ship my grandfather came over her from Greece when he was 10 yrs old. I have "The FamilyTree" certificates and a HUGE family tree chart. I keep track of all of that stuff. So in a way it's saving memories...right??

You should keep them in a scrap book so they dont get wrecked & it will be a great way for generations to look back an learn from your resuch and maybe each generation could add to the book to keep a record going?.

I started about 5 or 6 years ago, when my oldest was just a toddler. I went to a family festival thing and there was a Creative Memories consultant with a booth there. She's still my consultant. I liked it at first because it was simple and not the super frilly, frou-frou pages that I had seen before (nothing against the super frilly, frou-frou pages at all, it just wasn't for me!). I got hooked. Now, having said that, I'm about two years behind on my oldest's books, and barely started the youngest's book...and I'm about to have another baby in April...EEK!!!

But as for why, I just wanted a way to preserve all the pictures that I'd been taking since the kiddo was born. I had a ton of pics, and didn't know what to do with them. I liked that I could put the pictures in the albums and write a little story down to tell what was going on. All my previous pics were just in plain old albums, and I was beginning to not remember the where, when, who or why of the pics, kwim?

Anyway, I still prefer the simpler scrapbooking styles, just because it doesn't take me quite as long to finish. I've also gotten started doing a little digital scrapbooking too. Trying to incorporate that into my regular albums to help me get caught up.
